  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I am not sure why anyone would think differently at this point. Jimenez might be the best prospect in all of baseball. If not, he is in the team photo. and Kopech is not?
  2. If either of those guys are on the table (rather than the Red Sox saying straight out no), I would be happy to sweeten the deal with minor league talent. Would Abreu and Fulmer make it happen? A late 2018 OF of Jimenez, Benintendi and Garcia brings a smile to my face.
  3. Jason Vargas from the Royals is my buy low veteran pitcher. He seems like a Miguel Gonzalez mirror image in terms of production when healthy but is a touch older and lefty
  4. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) In one of the more recent BA updates they said the players would be under signing restrictions, but it didn't say international bonus pools like other earlier reports were, so I wonder if MLB is going to do something different this time. They do have the opportunity to set the precedent because the only other thing like this was the Red Sox but that was under a different international system. This is my thought as well. In theory, all other teams were damaged or put at a disadvantage by the Braves actions. The solution should be for all teams to be share equally in the solution.
  5. I hope he gets reinvented into a prospect by next year's trading deadline
  6. any advantage to us if it is a three way tie for second (since we are teasing out all scenarios)?
  7. It's amusing to see the year start off with people hoping the Sox would be in a position to draft Beer and ending with them hoping to not be in a position to draft him
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 11, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) He is 4th on the team in fWAR for position players at 1.6 and with his recent hot surge he's almost up to league average with the bat -- a quite valuable quality in a guy that plays 3B, SS, and 2B all above average. Personally I'd be considering making him the starting 3B next year. He's earned that shot. If he's really a 2-3 WAR player it would behoove the Sox to give him another 500+ PA next year. He's still only in his age 24 season and will be hitting his prime just as the Sox are looking to contend in 2019-2022. If nothing else he's proven that he'll have a 10 year career as a utility guy. Sox haven't had a player like him in quite a while. Remember when the "super utility" Bonafacio was on the roster? Ha! Didn't they have exactly the same guy you are describing just last year in Saladino? Just like Saladino this year, I wouldn't bank on Sanchez' performance to be repeated
  9. QUOTE (turnin' two @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 01:02 PM) Damn does that guy hate the Sox. He'd look foolish if he said anything different during Giolito current run
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) Surprised to see him back so soon. Liriano playing on the big club is a big incentive
  11. I just don't understand the mindset of attending this thing
  12. The Cubs drafted Schwarber 4th overall knowing he probably couldn't catch and without any defensive position.
  13. when is the bidding for him expected to begin?
  14. Hopefully Smith and Narvaez develop well enough in year 2 that they feel they can wait and let Collins perfect his skills.
  15. I would be fine if I never heard the Sox and Astros speculated as trading partners again the future. The process with them is fatiguing.
  16. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) Jerry gonna Jerry. Kenny has a lifetime deal because of 2005. wasn't it written in one of the post WS books that when JR was trying to convince KW's parents to forego Stanford by telling them that should he sign with the Sox he would have a job for life?
  17. You guys are about as fun as a sack of dead puppies. No, I do not really think the Sox will get Soto healthy and available before September 1.
  18. since my Clippard speculation ended up working, let's keep the momentum going on my luck Get him back playing and sell him off to the Cubs
  19. It appears that he has rebuilt some value with the help of Cooper. I assume he cleared waivers while things were not going well and that he is currently free to move. I expect to see him on another team before the deadline for being eligible for the playoffs. There are still teams out there who need bullpen help, like the Diamondbacks.
  20. when do teams begin to run players through waivers to test interest in an August trade? Is there some strategic reason the Sox would not have immediately sought to do so with Gonzalez, Holland, Pelphry and Clippard?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) Another Matt fan here? Cool. Two in the club. Good job Mr. Davidson. Another home run, 22, creeping u closer to 30 and another game-winning hit for a wretched ballclub. Since I've been convinced by the board that Matt is nothing, I looked up if he's already earned his MLB pension. Answer is yes. Good for matt. Rule says: "MLB players must play 43 days in the majors to earn a minimum $34,000 annual pension plan. Just one day in the majors gets them lifetime healthcare coverage. After 10 years in the big leagues, benefits grow to $100,000 annually." No matter what a free 34,000 a year and lifetime healthcare; not a bad start to go with his minimum salary of 500,000 or so. Keep it truckin Matt. Prove 'em all wrong. Count me in the Matt Batt-alion as well
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:20 PM) Why would the Dodgers want Melky? I am not seeing the fit. I don't know. I'm just playing along with the hypothetical. I do think they could be a fit for Gonzalez.
  23. Gonzalez has given up two runs in 13.1 innings against two highly likely playoff teams. He gets a third this weekend with Cleveland. I think if he can throw another great game, he is going to be sought after by more than one team before Monday afternoon.
