Ha. This just keeps getting better.

The Sox jumped onto social media and said "uh oh"

Lol guess it was a PR test after all. What a bunch of dummies.

So it appears that Robin Ventura's agent has Bob Nightengale's phone number.

If this is false, I feel like this is the 3-4 time this season Nightengale has been fed contradictory info. I wonder if he stops using his source.

So, Dick, just to be clear, your main thrust is that there is no way to ever judge whether a manager is good, either by record or by his choices on the field, so we should never fire a manager, correct?

No, but the outrage is laughable. If you think the Sox don't have the talent to compete, how do you blame the record on the manager? If you think the Sox should be in the playoffs with what they have, then yes, the manager should be fired. I just don't think Shields and Ranaudo and Danks and Albers, and Shuck and Avi not to mention other below average guys, are Robin Ventura's fault. When people are excited about Tyler Saladino, and want him as a regular, it is an indication the talent level is short. I don't think there is a manager managing or a manager in waiting coaching right now that would have had the 2016 White Sox in the playoffs.

Edited by Dick Allen

Nightengale says Sox want to keep Ventura in 2017. Hayes says he has not been offered a contract. So not mutually exclusive.

He said in his story contract negotiations had yet to commence. So there is nothing contradictory about Hayes' tweet.

Exactly. Nightengale never said a contract was offered as Hayes has confirmed there hasn't been one offered.

I guess I should add another possible scenario, though an unlikely one: that this was a mole hunt to expose media leaker(s). Which is yet another stupid move, but I suppose it could be reality.

So, sure. Avi Garcia is bad, but he's not 100% the reason that the sox have had a losing season. We should make sure he's still part of the team next year. Matt Albers was bad, but he wasn't 100% the reason the team was bad this year, he should be in the bullpen forever. James Shields is bad, but, so was everyone, it's ridiculous to think removing him will help.

It doesn't matter how you perform, so long as everyone around you is bad too. Then you can't complain!

That would be an embarrassing strategy for a professional organization, but hey, we saw how the drake laroche fiasco was worked in media. Sounds like the correct answer!

I could see the Sox making a massive contract offer to Ventura on the thought process that the FO doesn't want to get outbid.

I'm willing to be patient and see what happens between the last pitch Sunday and Monday afternoon. Hopefully Robin won't be back. And the stuff about a new manager not making a difference shouldn't even be a topic. Robin Ventura should have never got the job, so it's just the right thing to do to end his time here, and move on.

i read it more like KW informing Nightengale, RV's agent informing Dan Hayes

Players you change. That is far more effective than swapping out a manager. Again, Joe Maddon, Mike Scoscia, whatever, with this roster, and how the injuries shook out, they all would be fools.

Again, if the Sox were ever going to make a change, this seems like the time to do it. It just doesn't upset me that it appears they won't do it like it does most others. I'd rather have them blame players and change them.

Something we should ALL agree on.

Very lackluster announcement that day they announced him as manager

Luckily Epstein signed a big deal so the Sox can cower behind some local news on this mess

I will never forget cringing during his conference call when listening to it on the radio. I didn't even mind the hire at the time, but his lack of energy was startling

I am with Dick. Robin has nothing to do with the past 5 seasons of bad. Literally...nothing to do with it at all.

Why even have a manager if this was the case? Cant we just have a "line-up maker" and security be present in the club house? Team would do the same, right?

Colleen Kane ‏@ChiTribKane 5s5 seconds ago

Doesn't mean it won't happen, but source says it's not accurate to say Robin Ventura has been offered a contract for 2017 or beyond.

The rumors in 2011 of a player manager of Konerko - would have been a better idea.

If this ends up happening, I will not attend another White Sox game until Jerry either dies or sells the team. Reinsdorf is becoming Bill Wirtz incarnated.

After these past five years, you do both. Change players and the manager.

Dick, what concrete decisions that Robin Ventura has made on the field do you deem to be "good" this season, meaning they are examples of something he has done that illustrate his particular knowledge of the game and players and leadership of the team?
