Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Featured Replies

What do you guys think a deal would be if the Sox eat 6 mill this season and 6.5 next year (half his salary each year)?

Quintana and Robertson (plus half his salary) for Frazier, Torres plus 2-3 more (don't really know other names besides Mateo and Rutherford)?

  • Guys...I feel like losing Quintana would hurt the most. What is everyone's thoughts on keeping him? Maybe he can be the Ace of the next good Sox team.

  • http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/2123...white-sox-talk/   Official site of the Yankees reporting that the earlier reports of Robertson being included in trade talks was false.

Because of the holiday I thought that talks would resume this week and Hahn would get a deal done by the new year. We will see if that is the case, but I sincerely hope the Sox eat enough of Robertson's contract to bring back prospects with Quintana. Though you'd have to think Hahn would say to Cashman that he is getting Quintana at a decent rate so he will have to give prospects without considering Robertson's contract as too much of a problem in a deal. Any thoughts on why the Yankees want Robertson when they have Chapman? Is it a replacement for Miller?

It would return him to his former post as set-up man for that team, a role in which he thrived. And if the Sox were to eat some of the remaining contract, it would place him in that role affordably. Definitely seems to make some sense on their end, and if eating some of D-Rob's salary is the only thing standing in the way of acquiring the likes of Torres, Frazier, ++, then by all means, I hope they do it!

Oh look a new rumor. Who is going to finally budge first and pay up?

Now the Yankees want the Sox to eat money in a Quitnana trade???

Yankees want to flip Robertson like they flipped Miller and Chapman, must think they have some recipe to keep him from blowing 6 run leads in the 9th inning. I honestly do not doubt them. In any case if they want Robertson + Quintana AND want the Sox to eat money (this demand coming from the Yankees still beggars belief) they must be willing to part with Torres + Rutherford and more. So that's good news for talks with other teams.

It also means its time for the Nationals to nut up and make their move for Robertson.

I think Yankees still love idea of a super pen and think last year just didn't work out. Chapman/Betances/Robertson would be pretty super.

Re: 3 team deal, in my head this is how they go down.

Pirates are and were serious about getting Q. Pirates asked and found out they need to move salary in order to acquire Q. Pirates go to teams that had called in on Mccutchen when they had discussed weeks prior, the yankees being that top team left. But you can see Yankees were probably pretty loosely interested all along unless at their price, OR yankees having been brought in felt like their package alone was better than Pirates. And yeah, unless bell was included, Glasnow/Keller/Newman is a good package but not as much after 2 other pitching heavy deals for sox.

if we give the best starter, closer available + money, isnt that worth torres+frazier +more?

The Yankees were playoff contenders last year they just couldn't say no to what the Indians and Cubs were offering them.

Yes. Should be bigger return than the Sale deal. Frazier, Torres, and Rutherford minimum IMO.

I think that is probably why the Yanks are asking for Robertson now too. The Sox must be demanding a ridiculous haul and not budging on the asking price and feel as though that would take the sting away from giving that many talented prospects if they can bolster their pen again as bmags was saying.

Probably more like two of those three but very impressive depth on the deal. As many as 6 prospects coming back.

This is a head scratcher for me. Why are the Yankees interested in Robertson? They are in a semi rebuild and were applauded by the entire industry with the influx of young talent they have brought to their organization. I find it hard to believe Cashman wants to get rid of his young talented hitters: Torres, Rutherford, and Frazier. The only conclusion I can come up with is Steinbrenner pressuring Cashman to make a big acquisition for 2017 season.

Or Sox leaked this intentionally to Nightengale to scare Pittsburgh, Houston, Washington, whoever into dealing for Q. Its smart, they are simultaneously stimulating both the Q and Robertson markets by packaging them to the team with the best farm system.

Yankees are interested in Robertson as a set-up man ... Cashman has always believed in the stud 8/9 concept.

On this day in history there have been 3 trades in the last 15 years. However, one of them involved Sergio Santos... so, there's a slightly better chance than yesterday!

( +1 to the poster thinking this could be a Sox leak - I was gonna state the same )

Why do people assume it's a leak? If these talks are happening, it's not like they wouldn't go to other teams and say they are talking about this deal

Why would the Yankees want Robertson? They just paid Chapman. I don't buy the report. This is pressure on the other teams.

I wonder cashman trying lower the deal with adding robertson in the deal im thinking.

To go with a 3-headed monster at the end of the game like they entered last season with. It's not really that hard to figure out.

Because the possibility of it being a leak makes sense logically - especially considering the source has historically been connected to Sox leaks.

I think posters are in for a world of dissapointment if they think we'd get both Torres & Frazier in a Quintana deal. Robertson is worth something, but his addition is not resulting in another top 20 prospect, even if we pay some cash.

I think any framework here revolves around one of two pairs of headliners, with either Torres + Rutherford (more desirable) or Frazier + Mateo (less desirable). Perhaps adding Robertson is what's required to get the Yankees to include Torres in a trade, as he may be the lone "untouchable" in the system. I think the complementary pieces would primarily be pitching based, with maybe a lesser positional prospect like Andujar included. Honestly, a Torres, Rutherford, Sheffield, + package for Quintana & Robertson would be a huge haul IMO. I think expecting much more than that is completely unrealistic.

Totally agree.

On this board by different posters, people have expressed satisfaction if Robertson were traded for Severino from Nationals.

So if Robertson were included in Eaton trade it would have been Eaton + Roberton for Giolito, Lopez, Dunning and Severino, not Giolito, Robles, Lopez and Dunning.

I hope if Yanks come to bad we see Torres/Frazier, but adding Robertson just adds to the back.

3 guys for q and drob thats not enough.

Looks like this thing is getting pretty hot. I knew the Yankees would eventually get involved. Since when have they ever sit back and watched Boston outduel them in an offseason? Between that and pressure from the fanbase, YES Network and Steinbreiner, this is the perfect scenario for the White Sox. They have a tremendous system. One in which Hahn can truly get a fair return for Quintana. Throwing Robertson into a package deal to me simply means the Sox want Torres AND Frazier back in a deal-- gosh, if this happens- the White Sox farm system becomes the best in baseball!

That's 4 guys. The "+" is an additional piece.

BTW I find it so bizarre Yankees are asking for money.

My message board fantasy solution would be a Frazier/Headley swap with sox getting prospects for taking on money.
