February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) Doesnt a leak like this hurt them more than help since it was obvious that they made the s*** up to get another team to budge? Possibly. Who knows.

February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) Mazara, Profar, Mendez and a flier. This return would be way too light IMO.

February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 09:40 PM) This return would be way too light IMO. You have your hopes set way too high
February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:41 PM) If done right, it can help. The Sox should have been in regular dialog with the Rangers on this, and if the plan was to really use the Rangers as leverage against the Stros, you tell them that. The Rangers obviously want the Astros to pay as much as possible for Q, and if the Rangers really don't have any interest in him, what harm is it to the Rangers to play along? But then the Rangers have to spread the rumor as well, so you don't have media members squashing it. There is also the chance that the Rangers were trying to fly under the radar.

February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Texas really isnt farm rich...they have some nice prospects. But the guy you want is in the majors right now and it's not Profar. I agree. It was excellent but much of it is now in philly and Milwaukee.

February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) This came from Offman first. It seems pretty clear the Sox leaked this locally, then nationally. Then Rangers media members placed calls to their sources with the Rangers, and it got shot down. It does show that clearly moving Q is still priority #1 right now. Nightengale ran with it too, and we all know what that means

Sure, the Astros pay more, but who knows how those players will turn out. It's possible they just didn't want the Astros to get a front of the rotation arm signed cheap for the next 4 years.

February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) When's last time they did this? Nationals and Sale
February 1, 20179 yr If they are leveraging Houston they should have used the Pirates whom they have actually had some reportedly serious discussions with.
February 1, 20179 yr We know that Tampa was interested in Profar last week. Could this be part of a three team deal assuming it isn't just leveraging for Houston? What deal makes sense for all teams?
February 1, 20179 yr I'm not interested in an injury-prone, relatively short tenured Profar or the strikeout king Gallo. Give me Mazara, Mendez, Taveras and Guzman for Quintana.
February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 04:48 PM) If they are leveraging Houston they should have used the Pirates whom they have actually had some reportedly serious discussions with. Houston isn't in the NL Central anymore
February 1, 20179 yr QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 03:42 PM) You have your hopes set way too high C'mon man. That's a straight s***ty offer. Mazara is nice, but Profar has less control than Q and has been mediocre at best in the big leagues. I don't know a whole lot about Mendez but I think they could get a nice position player as the 3rd piece from someone else.
February 1, 20179 yr And why the hell is George Offman referring to the Rangers as "farm rich" LOL. You know Hahn told him to say those exact words and George doesnt know enough about systems to think its not true.
February 1, 20179 yr Mazara, despite the fact that I think he is rather overrated, is one of those guys who the Rangers aren't going to be willing to trade because he is a key piece of the current 25-man roster. It doesn't make sense to subtract part of what you gain in Quintana.
