His spring stats are better than I thought, but still, I don't think he'd have much deadline value even if he was decent and I'd rather give a younger guy his spot.

What other young lefty would you rather go with?

Clark is the only other lefty, and I feel the organization would like him to spend a bit more time in the minors before getting called up

He did get through all of the way to the middle of the AL wire last time around.

Yeah, so he got claimed, and now he's shown to be healthy which was a big part of the question with him. I'd be surprised if he cleared waivers, but we'll see.

Brian Clark is the only "young" lefty getting a real look at that level, and he's not quite ready yet. The team may not elect to carry a 2nd lefty at all, but if they do, Luebke is the guy.

Liriano has not had a great spring, outside of showing that he appears to be healthy

They might be able to sneak him through waivers

Didn't they already send Clark down?

He got hit in the head with a pitch I think it was last spring. He spent the year dealing with vision issues. He's k'd 19 times already. You can probably chalk it up to not playing at all last year and not seeing pitches but he could possibly be having vision issues.

That's why he was on waivers at all. He was at one time a Top 50 prospect in all of baseball. My view is, if you are a rebuilding club (ATL, SDP, etc.), and you see a talent like that is healthy and available, he's very much worth a shot.

All of the NL already passed on him once, as did all of the teams below the White Sox in the AL. Teams such as Cincy, Atlanta, Milwaukee, San Diego, Minny, Oakland, and TB and included in that.

The Dylan Covey experience may be ending. Just not enough quality innings this spring.

Yeah, I went into ST thinking he was a near-lock, but now I'm 50/50 on him making the roster.

I took him off my original post.

Purke hasn't given up a run so far. I know we have been there ,done that but I think Purke has the Clark Kent thing going on now wearing glasses on the mound. Don't recall hm wearing glasses with the Sox last year.

I'm pretty sure he did. I recall him looking like he should be a barista at Starbucks with they type of glasses he wears.

lmfao. He deserves a roster spot so long as he provides the team with coffee every morning.

With Rodon on the DL, I'll go with this:

1B: Jose Abreu

2B: Tyler Saladino

3B: Todd Frazier

SS: Tim Anderson

C: Omar Narvaez

CF: Peter Bourjos

LF: Melky Cabrera

RF: Avisail Garcia

DH: Matt Davidson

Bench: INF/OF Leury Garcia, INF Yolmer Sanchez, C Geovany Soto, INF/OF Cody Asche

SP

1. Jose Quintana

2. James Shields

3. Miguel Gonzalez

4. Derek Holland

5. Dylan Covey

Bullpen: RHP David Robertson, RHP Nate Jones, RHP Zach Putnam, RHP Jacob Petricka, RHP Michael Ynoa, LHP Dan Jennings, LHP Corey Luebke

White Sox need 3 40 man roster spots for this: Luebke, Asche, Bourjos, Soto

I'm starting to think May makes this team as the starting CF until Tilson gets back.

That is what I would prefer with Borjous as the 4th OF

Yea it sure seems like May has done everything a guy can do to win a spot. Same with Bourjos. Do they bat with the same hand? Seems like a tough call (pun intended for alex).

QUOTE (greg775 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 05:30 PM)
The White Sox should reprimand all scouts who had any say in acquiring Shields. As cheap as the Sox are, they sure throw away a lot of money due to bad decisions.... I can't imagine anybody with a brain paying money to go to any game Shields pitches at the Cell. Same with Holland for that matter. Why would you pay good money to see those stiffs pitch??

I can't believe those of you who love the draft trust our front office to draft impact player(s). There have been so many busts in the past or guys not worthy of being a No. 1 pick. Just look at the Sox history.

Agree about Shields and Holland. I wouldn't be surprised if those two last about as long as last years inning eating rotation vets John Danks and Matt Latos did last season.

*If the decision for the last spots for position players on the 25 man roster came down to picking between player A and player B this is Iwhat I might decide:

Bourjos v May - I'd go out on a limb and take May. Sox will probably take Bourjos. I'm fine either way.

Asche v Avi Garcia = I'd take Asche and release Avi. Asche has more home run potential and I'm just kind of tired of Avi.

Davidson v Delmonico - I'd take Delmonico and say goodbye to Davidson. Tough call there though.

Yolmar Sanchez vs Leury Garcia Coin toss. I'd like to have both of them on the roster if possible.

Any possible long shots?

Danny Hayes? Kevan Smith?

Probably not.

My prediction is the Sox will make a move that will end up with 8 in the pen.

Don't think it'll happen because of options but Danny Hayes has more of a chance at being something at DH than Matt Davidson imo. People sleep on Hayes a bit. .283/.381/.440 in A-ball. .248/.388/.360 in AA. Then the power came. .250/.358/.489 in AAA.

It's all about options though. Davidson, Leury, Sanchez, Ynoa will all be on the team because they don't have any options. I think Asche and Bourjos make it as well. Delmonico, Hayes, and May can all be optioned and probably will be. It's just a numbers game.

I agree Jimmy except on Davidson. I think it might be the end of the road for him. He is lucky that Delmonico has kicked a few balls over at third base in ST games or I think he gawn for sure and the Sox take Delmonico instead, a LH bat who might have more use as a platoon player.

yea, give Davidson a few more months...no harm. It also allows Delmonico to play every day and get his defense squared away.

I don't see much purpose for Bourjos on the team; but no big deal. If May plays well in AAA for a month or 2, they can boot Boujos.

Bourjos is fine as a 4th OF, but I would hate to waste everyday at-bats on him. The more I think about it, the more I'm willing to roll the dice on May in CF for a month. Probably would end up being a failed experiment, but May is such a fringey prospect to begin with that I see nothing to lose by trying at least.
