Eloy Jimenez is destroying the DWL

Featured Replies

In case you weren't aware, the Sox' top prospect Eloy Jimenez has been just killing Dominican Winter League pitching. Yes it's somewhere around AA-level competition, but it's still quite encouraging. Read up on just how big his performance has been so far, from our newest writer at FutureSox, Ken Sawilchik (Buzonthesox on SoxTalk).

Enjoy, and welcome our new talent!

What an unbelievable run this kid is on. The rebuild gets a whole lot easier if we get a superstar hitter in the middle of the line up.

I know, if Yoan can just make a bit more contact then that does everything. He's already hammering the ball when he hits it.

Oh wait you meant the other possible superstar hitter.

Yeah, but Luis Robert looks like he'll be a few years away. But it will be nice to have a CF with good power and hitting ability.

Wait, you were talking about the other other possible superstar hitter.

Steamer came out and Eloy projects to a 262/316/452 line with a wRC+ of 102. Eloy turns 21 in a couple weeks. That's insane.

This is a lot more fun than the "If Danks and Latos are top flight starters" game.

They mean like if he played in the majors in 2018?

Yea, which is insane. For comparison, (and he's a 2B with a decent maybe very good glove so it's not a great one) they think the 22 year old Moncada is going to put up a wRC+ of 98. So they basically think that Eloy is already a better hitter even though he's a year younger.

If anybody has the Steamer database link let me know. I'd like to see how Eloy projects against every 21 year old in MILB. I'd have to think he's at the top of the pile projection wise.

Eloy's winter ball coming to an end.

Yea I think the Sox have basically told him to rest up and get ready for late February in AZ. He said in a spanish language interview the other week that he didn't think the Sox were going to let him play too much longer down there.

Ex-Cubs prospect lol...geezus.

Search engine optimization. It gets them more clicks including that in the title.

Out of the four big trades Sox made (Red Sox, Nats, Cubs, Yanks), the Cub trade looks the best right now.

Only because Kopech and Moncada aren't playing right now.

Moncada played exactly one third of the season and batted .231.

s***, why haven't they released him yet?

Apparently because he hasn't played yet.

  • 2 weeks later...

Included in the new prospect write up for Eloy on mlb pipeline:

The Cubs likened him to Jorge Soler when they signed him, but Jimenez has a better chance to hit than Soler and drew some upside comparisons to Giancarlo Stanton in the AFL

Damn Gina.

why did he Play there at all? He had a Long season with full season minor league ball and the AFL.

winter ball is for Players who missed a large chunk of the offseason, he would have been better off resting 2-3 weeks and then starting Lifting and other Fitness Training for the off season. don't want to wear down that Body, especially because he already had some injury Problems in the past.

Probably to get close to the number of ABs that he'll see in full time at the MLB level. They think he is real close to the MLB and want to prepare him as much as possible for the MLB season.

This is the real challenge for many players making the jump. The grind of the 162 game (plus playoffs hopefully soon) schedule.

Wasn’t he injured for a chunk of the season? And he didn’t play AFL ball, which is why he played winter ball.

It wasn't a long season at all, he played 89 games after missing the first month due to injury, I see no issue with him playing in the DWL.

I mean dude was clearly worn down with the awful numbers he put up.
