The Mariners front office must be getting drunk right now.

The Mariners are the White Sox from 2007 until the rebuild started. Trying to be a major competitor, but never close enough.

Yep, and incredible lack of depth due to consistently raiding the farm system to plug holes.

(Though dipoto raids the farm system for such similar players so often it's a little unclear why)

I guess Seattle will be real active this July.

Angels should probably add another free agent SP. Go all out while they still have Trout.

Six players traded for cap.

So they go sign all the Braves guys. Net win?

Is a one year ban in the international market that big of a deal if there's a good chance you won't caught? I would hope they have something bigger in mind if they're trying a "scared straight" approach here.

The biggest loss would be Ohtani himself.

Where's their payroll expected to be at for 2018? Do they have room to add Darvish for $25-30 million per on a 6 year deal?

They sent out half a dozen players to gain international cap space, and completely struck out. They also missed out on a guy like Maitan who signed before they could bring him in potentially.

Meanwhile the White Sox sold off 3 sets of cap space and gained three prospects for something they weren't going to use anyways.

Oh boy, missed initially he's signing with angels in my last response.

Genuinely feel bad for mariners.

Very glad it's not padres.

Excited for years of Trout and Ohtani.

STill don't think Angels make playoffs :)

I don't think they should apologize. He was likely worth the effort. It sucks, but this is one of those cases where the right decisions went the wrong way.

Big ones signed already.

Maitan with angels.

Pujols at 1B is going to be brutal, even if it is just 2-3 games a week.

Interesting choice to pick the Angels, as their farm is one of the weakest in the mlb. Even with Richards back and Ohtani, the pitching staff is pretty suspect. They lost Petit, who pitched 91 solid innings for them in free agency as well.

The Astros should have a stranglehold on that division for the next few seasons, even if the Angels went out and signed relief help and Darvish. Best case they would be looking at a wild card I'm thinking.

They'll probably just sit him. Even his bat is a net negative.

He will wear down a lot sooner than other players with the double duty. I think he’ll be a pitcher only after 4-5 years once his hitting and pitching suffer from the excessive workload and longer season. A nice story but I think his career will be shorter than what you would normally expect. That’s a lot of wear and tear and injury risk being a 2 way player.

There are a lot of other pieces to grab in the marketplace and I'm sure Mariners will grab them.

They have so many injuries I kind of actually wonder if they should just go 6-man rotation.

And Severino to the Twins today I believe.

The biggest international guy left is probably Julio Pablo Martinez. He just had a showcase today. True 80 speed in CF with some solid hitting ability. All the teams left with money will probably try to target him first.

I've never seen him play, so it's hard to fathom that he actually lives up to the enormous hype. Daisuke Matsuzaka came over with enormous hype and only produced 9.3 WAR (Baseball Reference) in 8 seasons.

Splitting time batting and being a starting pitcher will be brutal in the long haul, as a 162 game season plus spring training, plus potential playoffs take a huge toll.

Fun...excited Angels got him. Now they need him to blow-up and then they can maybe find a way to build a winning franchise around Trout.

Supposedly he is the main target of the Yankees.

Just :djuhohgif: :djuhohgif: :djuhohgif: at the Mariners.

Angels were 12th last year in overall pitching (ERA and WHIP). It's like they had a team full of #3 starters. Had some good fortune - Orioles basically gave them Bridwell. Add an ace to that mix; best player in baseball in CF. They don't have a lot of prospects, but that can turn. Not a bad place to be.
