So many names up for 'pen roles I want to flip hahaha

I agree completely with OP, although I think Saladino could be a surprise DFA and Smith may get traded for scraps before the season starts

Davidson cut, wishful thinking?

Nobody has mentioned Willy Garcia, btw.

Vieira?

(Avilan)

If they think Cordell or Engel or Tilson could be everyday players, they should be playing everyday in Charlotte.

The more I think about it the more I think Davidson doesn’t make the roster. There have been some hints that the Sox could still add to the roster and DH is the only obvious spot. Plus the Covey timing makes me think it could be Dickerson assuming the price is low.

I’m a big Willy fan, but he’s definitely behind Nicky on the depth chart. I hope they keep him in the system, but I could see him as a 40 man roster casualty to make room for one of the non roster relievers.

I don’t think there’s any chance in hell Vieira makes the opening day roster. First, they’ll want to keep as many veterans as possible to give them more flexibility/depth. Second, they’ll wait at least a month even if he looks good in camp to ensure an extra year of service time.

Cordell & Tilson are sent to Charlotte to get every-day at-bats. I don’t think they’ll go with a three man bench all year, so I’d expect one of them up at some point.

I think they might go with a different Cf then leury not sure who but this was tweeted earlier.

Renteria spoke of Leury Garcia as more utility guy than regular CF. "We’re going to give him an opportunity to be moved around a lot and keep him as valuable as we possibly can at any position we have."

Then they will end up the same way they did last year with May on the roster.

Unless Engel or Tilson or Cordell can hold down the position, it reverts to Leury by default.

I don't like the 13 man pitching staff. 12 is plenty.

I think one of those 3 will be the starting CF. I would guess Engel

I'd normally agree, but given how bad our starters project to be overall, I think we'll need the extra arms. Especially early in the season, pre-Kopech

Flip Leury and Anderson in the lineup.

If this team was likely to compete this year, I would agree, but at this point they may as well give Anderson as many PAs as possible. Hopefully his mental state is healthier this season.

1. L. Garcia, CF (also sees time in the infield)

2. Moncada, 2B

3. Abreu, 1B

7. Anderson SS

8. Davidson DH (also sees time at 1B and 3B)

They’ll need the pen even more with Kopech and Hansen...to protect them as much as possible.

I don't think we see Hansen this year and most of the bullpen will be traded by the time Kopech is in Chicago

The bullpen actually doesn’t look to be as much of a dumpster fire as I expected. Obviously not a great group, but I don’t think they’ll be a huge liability either.

We have many more arms to try out in Bullpen than rotation and I'm glad we have some roles set already.

I'm probably too high on Minaya which may not be rewarded, but he was thrown in last year in situation after situation with no fire escape. He just had to deal with it. And I thought he did well, and makes me think if he's in roles where he can be optimized for his strengths he could be pretty good.

Ha. I see you did what I did. Quoted Chicago White Sox's post and made a few tweaks. Lot of guys who could potentially end up in the pen so I didn't even bother thinking about the pen on my own.

I was considering replacing Bruce Rondon with Danny Farquhar but the bullpen isn't too shabby all things considered. I don't really think Saladino is deserving of making the team but I picked him over Davidson just because he has more versatility...although it wouldn't shock me if the Sox sign another infielder at some point and they win the backup infielder job.
