December 26, 20187 yr I continue to be surprised that the Dodgers aren't being more aggressive in filling their needs on the trade market. We'll see how it works.

December 27, 20187 yr As long as the Indians don't get "he who must not be named" from the Padres it'll be fine.

December 27, 20187 yr Are the Indians re-tooling or rebuilding on the fly? Seems like an odd message to be sent if you're trying to compete by trading their ace.

December 27, 20187 yr Quote Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes further reports that Cruz will earn $14MM in 2019, and the contract contains a $12MM club option with a $300K buyout (Twitter link). Cruz is represented by agent Bryce Dixon. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/12/twins-sign-nelson-cruz.html
December 27, 20187 yr Cruz and Alonso certainly aren't the exact same player and maybe Alonso helps land Machado, but hard to think that Cruz doesn't out produce Alonso by $5 million next year.
December 27, 20187 yr If anyone was still worried Abreu might be traded, I think Cruz only getting 14 should help ease your mind a little. I understand they aren't the same player, but I think it cements the fact that Jose is worth "about" what he is being paid, therefore shouldn't/wouldn't bring much of anything back in return... therefore the Sox aren't turning down prospects for keeping Abreu.
December 27, 20187 yr A tad more than I thought he'd get. $14.3M is not nothing for a one dimensional player that is quickly approaching 40. But it is hard for a one year deal to go too sour. This also locks Sano into 3B for the Twins, and he is pretty terrible at 3B. The Twins new front office really likes trying to build a squad off stopgap players.
December 27, 20187 yr God dammit that's a great deal for the Twins. He's purely a DH but he's a good DH. Would not be surprised to see him put up 3 WAR next year and hit 280/350/520. That said, there's a non zero chance his BA craters and sucks up a lot of his value. Not much value at 230/300/470.
