How is this any different than the Sox?

Unlike the Dodgers, the Sox are desperate for Harper to alter the whole trajectory of their franchise, and have staked themselves to that desperation publicly.  They stripped down their payroll for the express purpose of adding a major free agent.  Sure, this contract would out of character for Reinsdorf too, but the Sox have much more natural motivation to break character.

The part that makes me suspicious about the Dodgers interest is.

The Dodgers can sign Harper first, and then move contracts later. Maybe they wont get *as* much talent because people know they are more desperate to move them, but still if Harper is so important you sign him and then worry about cutting salary.

Not to mention, if you are a GM and Friedman is calling you trying to trade you an OF.... you know why he is calling and you know he is motivated.  Nothing will change if they sign Harper first.

It’s different because Friedman does this by choice.  He’s had near unlimited financial resources and still hasn’t signed a player to a huge contract.  He values depth & flexibility and signing record breaking contracts take away from that.

The Sox in this case would also be paying for star power, which helps offset the ridiculous $400M cost.  The Dodgers aren’t able to realize anywhere we could from a Harper signing.

So is it safe to say that nothing new is being reported?

Couldn’t one argue that Reinsdorf does it by choice and doesn’t believe any player is worth “X” amount?  I agree the Sox would get a much bigger bounce from signing Bryce, but it’s also extremely likely there were 2 or 3 places that Bryce would agree to play.  It might be up to those places to make their best offer while using Sox to increase the bid.

He's making concessions so that he can sign with a team other than the Sox.

Sucks to suck. ?

But the Sox have come out and said they’re actively pursing the whales.  By default, Reinsdorf is already aligned unless our front office is completely incompetent and did not run this plan by him.  Jerry is also old as fuck and probably a bit more eager to spend some money than in years past, but that’s just my assumption.

There is nothing but random speculation connecting the Dodgers to Harper.  What we know is they have communicated to potential investors they plan to stay under the luxury tax over the next few years.  We also know Friedman is a bit more conservative when it comes to pay market value for start free agents.  Until I hear from Ken Rosenthal or someone of that nature, I don’t buy any of these rumors to be nothing more Boras-fueled leaks.

I see no way the cubs or dodgers do this $75 million per year.

Define “short-term”, because $300M over four or five years would be ridiculous and would make a 10/$400M deal far more attractive IMO.

It wouldn't be, it would be something like 8/300 with an opt-out after 3 or 4 years.  That gives him a lot of opportunities down the road he doesn't have right now, including playing for the Yankees or if a team starts up in Vegas.

There's no earthly reason for him to take 8/$300 over 10/$350  if both of them include opt outs after year 4.

I'm seeing on twitter that Sherman said it would be a long-term deal that Harper is seeking

No he didn’t. He was asked what  he thought would happen with Harper and Machado. Sherman said he thinks Philly gets Machado and both guys get their money. He said it’s going to take a little longer and more grinding by agents is needed. He then said he sees whoever gives the most money gets Harper since he has been waiting for this moment since he was in HS. He specifically mentioned the Sox as a possibility.

THEN was asked about Harper to the Dodgers and he said he doesn’t see it happening. He said it would take over $300 million to sign him and he doesn’t see the Dodgers interested UNLESS on a short term deal. Does think Bryce is interested in playing in LA for the star reasons and it’s close to Vegas.

You should really think about stopping your nonsense posts or at least try and actually report what they said. It’s seriously  becoming unbearable your sources and inside info changes as much as the wind blows enough please.
