Yankees sign Adam Ottavino: 3yr/27m

Agreed. Relievers on longer 3/4 year deals have shown that at least 1 year is generally a dud or an unlucky one, so basically paying an additional 9mil season hoping that 2/3 are good isn't best use of funds. Also, we have some good talent in minors ready within that time frame

I'm also not sure how long he'll hold up.  He's definitely fun to watch, but he's already had one major injury and he has some interesting mechanics.

  • I'd love that signing, that slider is so hilarious.  You almost wanna play the Benny Hill music when someone tries to read it.

  • GMAB. When one of our bullpen arms actually can dominate AAA and can't come up I'll actually be receptive to them being "blocked" but seeing as how major league teams have a great resource, our AAA te

They are signing everybody in the league it seems. So much for that Luxury Tax being a deterrent for them.

How could the Sox not beat that deal? Goddamnit.

Because they weren't giving out 3 year deals to relievers. Herrera is also 3 years younger.

I think the Yankees are still under the luxury threshold actually

Ottavino is on the older side but I still would have given him 3 years. His stuff is otherworldly.

Darn

Damn.

At his age, I'd rather roll the dice on Hamilton-Burdi-Johnson-Burr-Ruiz-Thompson-Vieria for cheap.

Who says they didn’t? If you’re 33 year old Adam Ottavino and you had two similar deals from the Yankees or the 100 loss White Sox, where would you go? Would have been awesome if the Sox could have gotten him.

This is exactly what I was thinking. This is a major problem for the White Sox. We’re already second class citizens in the baseball world because of that team up north, and you couple that with 100 loss seasons? It’ll be a hard sell to get free agents here when winning clubs want them too.

With Colome and Herrera already in tow, I couldn't agree more.

I think this puts them just over it, but they could readily get under it again by trading Gray and saving a little money there.

Nobody likes a Dan Clark.  ?

Psh, this one wasn't a scoop, just a VERY good guess. ;) And unlike Dan, my guess came true (except it's the deal I wanted the Sox to give him. )

Seems like a reasonable price to me; but I doubt the Sox  could have gotten him for that price.
