That doesn't mean offers haven't been discussed, which I'm sure they have been.

Whoa, big nugget here:

"Yet, Reinsdorf was not at the meeting, and still has not granted permission for Williams and Hahn to negotiate a contract."

This is how a proper sales pitch should go. Discuss the product and it’s potential and make sure it’s the right fit, then you talk price.

They met with him for 5 hours?! Jesus.

If the White Sox sign him they need to do so soon as they need to understand that the window to compete is now open.   This is most likely the point to pushing Boras.  If they sign him in January the scope of the off-season will have been different.

Keuchel has to be a top target as well as the relievers if Macado or Harper sign.

If neither sign push the free agent signings off until next year.....but then the White Sox also become the Bulls in that they don't sign the big money free agents.

I think this is absolute BS.

If Boras is still willing to talk to us then it means that it doesn't matter if an offer has been made because he knows we are willing to hit his price. All this probably means is that we haven't put forward a formal contract offer yet.

I imagine it being painfully awkward between those two.

I'd like to take it at face because I think its a positive thing if we haven't offered anything yet. But ya know, Nightengale.

I'm certain offers have been discussed even if one hasn't been formally presented.

Free agency next year is non existent.

I don’t take much of anything Nightengale says with any kind of seriousness. Not because I chose to ignore it but because he’s so wrong all the time (Phillies are the favorite for Corbin-10 minutes later he signs with Nationals).

Maybe no formal offer was made but you don’t meet with him without knowing what numbers they’re thinking.

Bob Nightengale articles about the Sox get me pumped, now I know JR is real about paying  Harper. This needs to be finalized soon!

The Dodgers nugget in there still scares me. I hope the Reds stick to their guns and insist on sending Homer Bailey back.

Sure but this also means this is nowhere near the finish line. This is going to be a complicated contract.

A 5 hour meeting, what can they talk about for that long?

Rumor that I'm sure isn't true but I'll post anyways. Some Harper announcement/decision at 130/230 today. Anyone hear anything about this?

When you’re potentially going to give a guy $40 million a year, I’m sure you ask any and every question you can think of haha.

Hahn said yesterday they want to be respectful and give Harper time to make his decision. This tells me Harper is waiting on other teams to see what they have to offer. We probably haven't made a formal offer and are waiting for other teams to submit their offers, then we'd try to top it.

Where have you seen this?

Due dillegence when weighing a half billion dollar deal?

I'm jealous for those of you that have not been in 5 hour meetings before.

All of this makes complete sense. Its unclear if the Sox want Machado or Harper. They havent even met with Machado. How could you submit a formal offer to Harper, if youre not sure what youre doing with Machado.
