Has he made a real splash? *rimshot*

Orioles drafting Connor Gillispie.

So assuming the 10th round pick is a $10,000 pick again and if the Sox signed the first 4 picks to slot here is the savings available for later picks:

I think penalties kick in if you go beyond 5 percent of your pool so almost 550k more if 1-4 net at slot.

Wasn't it reported that Dahlquist (3rd round) was looking for about 2 mil?  That would take up pretty much all of the savings at this point.

Vaughn and Thompson collectively will save us about $1,000,000 IMO.

So, when are we going to draft actual prospects again?

It will be interesting to see.  Personally I don't know why Vaughn would sign for anything significantly under slot.  Thompson maybe, he seemed to be taken a bit higher than predicted so there may be some savings there.

Next year?

The Sox haul seems kinda underwhelming after the first 3 picks to be honest

So how quickly does the excitement of being drafted in the 5th round as a college senior turn into the realization of "shit, I'm still only getting a 10K bonus"?

Maybe never? We are entering no mans land anyways. Most of the guys drafted going forward have little chance of ever making any real impact.

$578,275 should be exactly 5% of the $11,565,500 pool for the Sox.

Not everyone is phoning it in.  The Twins got themselves a dude in the 9th round.

At this point this was probably the expected outcome here.

So the Sox took 4 legit prospects and then a bunch of useless college seniors?

Because if we didn't take him he was probably falling to 5, so we should be able to offer just over that slot and he would be getting more than if he doesn't take that.

Sox need to sign these legit prospects. It's not like this is an unusual approach.

Ha. all you have to do is look at the MLB draft tracker since round 5. rounds 6-9 have like one top 200 pick per all teams per round.
