I mean, I wouldn't hate adding him to the Sox 2B/OF mix.

Well considering you specialize in inverse logic I would say we should get him.

Would be a pretty good replacement for Luery if we are able to get anything for him

If nothing else Madrigal will have someone to keep him company at the amusement park when the rest of the team goes on a roller coaster.

Now this is an Astros DFA's player I want on my team

It must be nice to have a team that needs to DFA a guy like Tony Kemp

Teams could do way worse for a 4th outfielder.second basemen than Tony Kemp. Sox should certainly take a look at this guy if available.

Is he a better option than Yolmer at second?  He would at least provide more flexibility by being able to play the OF, too.

There’s really no place for him or Derek Fisher on that roster...

He'd be under team control for 3 more years than Leury, too.

Replace Rondon with this guy. Put Sanchez to the bench.

Much

Tony Kemp has never put up a 1.0 fWAR. The grass is always greener.

I am surprised to read the "go get Kemp" posts.  This guy would add to the garbage we already have in Yolmer, Tilson, Rondon, Cordell, Engel.

He's never had more than 300 AB's. He's a significantly better hitter than Sanchez at the moment.

He’s way more useful than every single one of those guys.

How so?  Not trying to be a jerk but I don't see it.  I'm interested in why you feel that way.

True, but we really don’t know what we have in Mendick.  Kemp could be a decent option starting at 2B until we call up Madrigal a few weeks into next season.  Then, Kemp could assume the utility role.

He may be one of many who is a better hitter than Yolmer, but not significantly.

He had an OPS+ of 107 in 300 ABs last year and a 92 this year. The guys you named couldn't do that in their dreams.  He takes walks better than anyone on this team.

He plays both the infield and the outfield well enough and with speed. None of the guys you listed can do that.

Remember when yolmer had that half decent year in 2017, and we all said that guy would be useful on a contenders bench? That's what Kemp is.

A 23 point gap in OPS+ is pretty significant.

Kemp only plays against RHP

Tony Kemp career.........

AB R H HR RBI SB AVG OBP OPS
2019 Stats 163 23 37 7 17 4 .227 .308 .725
MLB Career Stats 575 81 138 14 58 16 .240 .322

.697

2019 WAR .6

Career WAR .7

Yolmer Sanchez:

2019 WAR .4

Career WAR 7.0

Just don't get how he's better.  It is hot garbage all the way around.

That's fine, I'm not looking for a starter, Kemp is a better utility option moving forward than anyone on this roster.

I would take Leury over him without a doubt.

Leury's a lot more expensive and only under control for a year, you'd have Kemp for 4 (maybe 5, I don't trust my math).  They're otherwise pretty similar in their usefulness imo
