November 12, 20196 yr Farquhar is a super smart dude, and the Astros are really outing themselves as an uber gross organization.

This is nothing new really; this culture has been building and intensifying since Luhnow took over. I loved Stras calling them out in the World Series - he said he was "tipping" but in reality he was calling the Astros on what a lot of baseball feels. Stealing signs legally is fine and a part of the game - using home field electronics is trashy and cheating. Period. Edited November 12, 20196 yr by Look at Ray Ray Run
November 12, 20196 yr I don’t subscribe to the athletic so can’t read the whole article...what is the “electronic” part involved before the banging sound? Is someone watching the tv broadcast and able to relay the signal that quickly?

They set up a camera in the outfield that fed to a monitor in the dugout, they weren't watching the broadcast, and they were only doing it at home

November 12, 20196 yr I would also say using electronics to notice pitch tipping in game is cheating. I wouldn't be shocked if the Astros were doing this with all their access to technology.

Stealing signs legally is fine and a part of the game - using home field electronics is trashy and cheating. Period. Agreed. In our semi-final game for our summer season, we noticed the catcher was exposing the signs so obviously so that you could see them as a first base coach. The guy coaching third noticed this and started relaying to the hitter with different phrases for different pitches that were coming.

Everytime in that inning that Danny put a change up sign down, the banging happened from the dugout. Everytime it wasnt a change up it was silent.
November 12, 20196 yr There is nothing wrong with "stealing" signs from 2B or picking up something from the 3B coach. Having a CF camera focused on the opposing teams catcher, watching the feed in the tunnel and then relaying the signs is hilariously bad.

November 12, 20196 yr farquhar steps of at the 2:58:40 mark of this replay. It is suuuuuuuuuper obvious before that what was going on.

November 12, 20196 yr That entire at bat was embarrassing. Far too obvious they were doing it. Edited November 12, 20196 yr by Baron
November 12, 20196 yr One of the many reasons why I was rooting for the Nationals in that World Series. And yea Farquhar is a fucking gem. Outstanding job by the Sox bringing him back to the organization.
November 12, 20196 yr Quote Former Houston pitcher Mike Fiers told The Athletic that the Astros stole signs electronically at Minute Maid Park during their World Series-winning 2017 season, adding another inglorious instance to the franchise’s recent history of cheating accusations Citing three anonymous sources along with an on-record interview and confirmation from Fiers, The Athletic reported the Astros had a camera in center field at Minute Maid Park fixated on an opposing catcher. A television just below the dugout showed the feed. Players watched the catcher and soon were able to detect what was coming. “That’s not playing the game the right way,” Fiers told The Athletic. “They were advanced and willing to go above and beyond to win.” The Astros non-tendered Fiers after the 2017 season. He did not make any of the three playoff rosters that season. Fiers has played for the Tigers and Athletics since leaving Houston, where he threw a no-hitter in 2015. https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/Mike-Fiers-Astros-stole-signs-electronically-2017-14829154.php?utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=referral
November 12, 20196 yr Farquhar seems like a really smart guy. I hope he becomes the pitching coach whenever Cooper hangs it up.

Wonder what MLB is going to do about it. Likely, nothing .
