No way thinks Yolmer is terrible, he’s just not worth $6M+ to be a reserve infielder behind Moncada, Anderson, & Madrigal.

I think he’s terrible in today’s offensive environment

Maybe they’re freeing up a spot for Billy Hamilton

harsh way to treat a guy that's been with the organization for 10 years  guess his loyalty money went to abreu ?

Well good thing then that neither of these three will be on the team next year.

Yolmer could still be back btw. no team is going to tender him a contract for his arb price

I think you are correct, but I would be shocked if no one claimed him and tried to work something  out before the tender deadline. Mike Zunino got $4,5 million. Yolmer might get close to that.

He played too much. He would be pretty popular if he had been a utility guy all the time. I think the Sox have to move on, but he will be a major leaguer for several more seasons even with his bat.

Outrighting him now makes perfect sense if they wanted to work out a new deal with him -- every team just solidified their 40-man in preparation for the Rule 5 draft. A team would have to like him more than either someone they just protected or whoever it is they planned to try to snag in the draft for them to make a claim.

I think he’s better than he showed last year, but obviously the bat is still a problem.

Why would they have to place him on outright waivers to work out a new deal?

I suspect Yolmer is the kind of player some folks on this board will fall back in love with when they seem him in another uniform.

Yolmer a great personality, great clubhouse player, good fielder. Wish him the best.

In a thread so far that reads like " See ya wouldn't wanna be ya and good riddance to bad rubbish ' leave to the guy everyone calls a troll to be the classy one.

So I guess this means Leury is the opening day 2B when Madrigal is sent down to prove he is ready for two weeks.

Danny Mendick.

Or someone we don't have on the roster yet.

Derek Dietrich is my guess as the cheap guy they add for the bench to fill in to start the year.

I wouldn't mind grabbing a LH depth piece with some pop.

Oh you mean like Moustakas ? There's Brock Holt still out there and Kendrick and Starlin Castrio and Kipnis etc etc  but none really fit the LH bench piece with pop if you mean could hit 35 HR's like Moose or if you mean more like a true bench piece who hits around 10 .

Brock Holt

Moustakas doesn’t work well with the addition of Grandal.  I’d rather go with someone Gwinnett who can play some OF at least and will be way cheaper.

ya this screams a signing. here's to hoping at least!

Wondering about Calhoun. If he were to be signed by the Sox is a draft pick involved?

No.

I hope no Calhoun. Low average to go along with alot of strikeouts, not a good combo.

No you need to have given a QO

On Twitter, Steve Stone just hinted that Yolmer won’t be coming back.

Lol, it's apparent Swisher was not liked in the clubhouse

Yolmer back with us a 4 million wouldn't surprise me in the least.  He is a good backup infielder.  Just not worth 6 million.

Yes, Stone is right, Yolmer will be a mini Sox legend.

This. They're familiar with what he's able to offer, and is serviceable at both 2B and the OF. Makes a lot of sense if Madrigal/Robert falter.
