If the Sox have had the highest bid for two players, why don’t these guys want to play here?

Texas also has no state income tax, so the Sox could have been the higher bidder and still been behind Texas,

Yeah, I see one or two, not  a fan base.

OK, champ.

Plenty of Sox fans have posted on this forum and twitter angrily towards Hahn spending time with the media. Sorry that offends you that I pointed that out that I find it weird.

Income tax actually might matter to someone like Lyles at his price point. Texas has none.

Texas also may have guaranteed him a starting spot, which was something the Sox maybe couldn't have done for the duration of the contract.

Yeah Bob didn't totally confirm, but he said something about taxes and a new stadium... haha

In Lyles‘ case probably because the Rangers have a clear path for him to be in the rotation all year while the Sox don’t.

Do you think the "you won't" game works with a MLB GM? Can't hurt to try!

You won't, Rick.

I triple dog dare you, Rick!!!

They are also opening their new park this year?

Yah....as I predicted and was laughed at the other day...I'll believe an exciting winter meetings happens when it happens.  This has been a complete snoozer for the first 45 hours.

If the Rockies are looking to rebuild, what kind of package would a Gray and Dahl combo command? I assume at least 2 of Vaughn, Madrigal, Dunning with some other high-upside flyers?

I'd like to petition that future Winter Meetings are held in the Northeast so

1. they wake up earlier in the day relative to the rest of the country so I don't have have to wait for three timezones for them to wake up, and

2. they can't be distracted by nice weather - stay inside and make some moves

It's still pretty early in San Diego.

I know, sentiment remains though. Would love discuss how Rick Porcello signing with the Twins will torpedo the offseason or something.

I am moreso concerned that the Sox were actually interested in Jordan Lyles than the fact that he took a $1M or whatever less to play elsewhere.

Why? As a second pitcher and his age I think he's as likely as any to be one of the more productive low-tier signings this year.

Sweet should mean Peralta is attainable.

Had heard Dbacks wanted Calhoun...wish he was off the board

I miss when the Dbacks front office sucked.

Was Dave Stewart one of the worst and shortest tenured GMs ever?
