Sox in on MadBum

Featured Replies

Why are there two threads on MadBum?

Also, wth happened to MadBum? Guy is only 30 but you'd think he was 36 with how his career is headed.

  • Great pitchers actually quite often go away once they hit 30.

  • Does Ryu speak Cuban?

Bum has a 3.90 ERA with 207+ innings and 1.9 BB/9.  Not Sandy Koufax but not doo-doo.  Ryu is OK as well for the right price.  Both are good additions if the $ and years are reasonable.  Doesn't seem like our FO is trying to be cheap...just prudent.

It's his home-away splits. At least the last two years, he's great in SF and sucks everywhere else.

He pitched a billion innings

One is to discuss plan-B options (name got changed to include their current target). But they are different thread topics.

Bumgarner was my choice outside of Strasburg and Cole tbh

brutal. Imagine him pitching in the Sox bandbox.

To be fair, not going too much into peripherals and just glancing at ERA, he was solid away from SF before 2018.

And he wants over $100m

Plan b is 2 words Stephen Strasburg. Focus resources on him

Please for the love of God tell me the team isn't the one wanting this out there.

Gregor was a mouthpiece last offseason saying they wouldn’t go to 300

I got mocked for bringing this up but I think its definitely something you have to consider. Especially if you're dolling out a lengthy deal.

I'm sorry if I was too harsh.

Watch Bumgarner sign with the Sox and become the next James Shields.

That's pretty much exactly what I expect if they sign him. If you're not going to get a SP via trade, go after one of the top two. If you're not willing to open the wallet for them, stand pat. Addition for the sake of addition sucks, and that's what throwing money at Bumgarner, Keuchel, or Ryu is.

This is the first time I can remember monitoring a free agent thread and hoping it does not work out.  The Sox desperately need SP but MadBum is not the answer, especially at the supposed price tag.

Madbum or Ryu, veteran lefty added to a young righty heavy rotation. I'd be good with either. Sox have a plethora of young pitchers, need a workhorse leader in the rotation. MadBum would maybe be rejuvenated in Chicago. The dude is a pure winner, even if the skill has regressed some.  That said, 100 MILLION? Dunno about that.

If we aren’t going to make the good gamble (strascole) the choice between a bad gamble and not even playing the game I guess you take the bad gamble.

I prefer the gamble named Ryu

So MadBum might get over 120 million?  Yikes, at least sounds like Sox aren’t close with him

This would be a terrible signing if it happened. He is going to get lit the fuck up in GRF.

With nothing of value to trade, spending money to spend money seems like a fair option.

$100 million or more for MadBum.. no thanks.
