Let's lock down two starters and two relievers and a right fielder and not worry about a third baseman which we already have one of the best.

Getting one of the best bats in the majors means RF can be a lower level guy (or replaced internally). And means thyme or offense is set and can focus on patching a pitching staff together a la twins.

Your worth has nothing to do with paying more than you have to.

Based on your argument Lerner could buy a stock for $5 more than its trading price and its okay because he's rich.

Players dont really compare to publicly traded companies. Unlike a publicly traded company there is not a current price that if you pay it you automatically get the stock.

The better comparison is when a company buys another company. They usually pay what is called a "premium" which is higher than the stock price. The reason is because in order to buy the company they have to theoretically outbid other potential companies who may also want to buy that company.

The point is Lerner looks at the Nationals as a long term investment, not as an investment that needs to be profitable every year. Which is why I pointed out that the franchise has theoretically gained over $1bil in value.

For a minute, I had to check to see if Reinsdorf died or sold to Mark Cuban.

That is a fake account. Likely a Cub fan troll.

Not buying that it's smart to lose Madrigal and move Moncada back to 2nd where frankly he didn't look very good.  Part of his good year was playing a position he felt natural in.

Eh, ok, fake account or no, I stand by my sentiment.

You don’t have to lose Madrigal. You could move Moncada to RF.

Because those starters and relievers are probably not going to bring back the same value as Rendon but will cost more per season combined.

I thought it was funny. I didn't take it as a jab that "no one wants to play for the Sox"; rather as a jab on the FO always rushing out the news "we had the better offer"

I doubt Gordon Wittenmeyer's actual Twitter handle is "G dub Cub"

That account also lacks a blue check mark. It's fake.

With interest attached to the deferrals I really don't understand them. You still, technically, should be putting that money to the side if interest is going to be owed on it.

Maybe the Nats think  they can make more money than the interest rate they gave him on the money to offset some of the costs on their side.

Someone is going to have to tell all of his colleagues that they've been interacting with a fake account for over 7 years then

With the looks of the economy over the next decade...that's a dubious bet.   Most are predicting 4-6% ROR in the market in the coming years (not subtracting inflation rate and taxes), rather than 8-10% and above.  Of course, it also is dependent on the election outcome next year, which is impossible to predict as well.

Kevin Durant or a 76ers exec?
