Am I missing something? Why do people think that fans will even be allowed at the game?

  • Yeah, if there's not a season until mid-August. We have bigger problems than trying to open at the Field of Dreams.

  • Next to zero chance.

Because for a brief, fleeting moment I forgot what timeline we were in.

Sox could still play there but it won't be against the Yankees.

So the league wouldn't make an exception for one special "event" or game?

I doubt it. It's going to be a regional schedule.

The idea of commemorating the Black Sox scandal is foolhardy. How about inviting the Astros and have people bang garbage cans?

Some things are best left for history.

I am gonna predict, both the NFL and MLB will cancel their seasons.

And NBA and NHL and WBA and that kickball league too

This thread should be on page 10 by now. Having a Field of Dreams game this year would be ridiculous . There was no world wide pandemic making attendance ( if you build it they will come ) practically impossible nor threatening the health and safety of everyone involved during baseball when the movie was made ,  The title "Field of Dreams" itself becomes a cruel joke on the current state of baseball this year. It's more a nightmare than a dream .

Local reporter at the Des Moines Register with an update that may piss us off

It’s MLB, so bad decisions are their thing. But I can’t imagine the White Sox not being one team that HAS to be in this game. My first choice is the Reds. 1919 World Series. Duh.

ESPN clearly demanding the broadcast rights.

It would be such a cubs and espn move to strip this national opportunity from the White Sox and give it to the Cubs...

Why not do Sox vs Reds?

Does anyone really care that much? This idea never really moved the meter for me. I think the movie is terrible though.

I thought the White Sox were the ones who came up with the idea?  Find it pretty far fetched that somehow we wouldn’t be involved.

Not so much “care”, but if they’re playing a game in a cornfield in Iowa based on the book and movie, the one team that needs to be in that game is the Chicago White Sox.

I actually agree. I love movies and I find Field of Dreams to be terrible as well. But you can't do a Field of Dreams game without the White Sox....

I really hope that it isn't against the Cubs or Cards.  There are enough of those fans around here.

Sox v Reds would be fun or maybe funny. Game on.

The owners of the property were a Southside Chicago couple who wanted to make an amateur facility that locals were opposed to. The current project is temporary. The wife ran the company but passed away.

Better than the Cubs.
