White Sox 2020 Draft Day discussion thread

It’s hard to have high confidence in this draft (though some are trying). What may traditionally be a reach may seriously be a value pick here. If what sox saw in fall/few innings was influential on some changes...it’s a risk but this draft has a lot of unknowns from hereon out.

Which isn’t to say “we just should trust the Sox” our chuck style just that I have more muted view this year.

  • I'll say this, I trust this system to develop a hard throwing college lefty a lot more than a high school bat

  • Howard needs to do right by the Sox and turn down millions to go to school.

  • Eh, the Sox can get Ed Howard in four years when they trade for Reynaldo Lopez in a pennant chase

The biggest fear factor for Crochet is health, which also happens to the thing the Sox do better than anyone else in baseball.

Any chance that Howard falls into the Sox lap due to signability issues?

No, enough teams have plenty of money left to offer more.

8 WAR out of the 11 spot isn’t a bad floor

Very true. Got me there.

I wonder if @Harold's Leg Lift likes this pick a little more than last year's first rounder.

Yes

The sox must give crochet at least a 30-40% chance to start to pick him there. If he is a closer that would be good too but as a ceiling that is not enough at 11 as there is also downside, Miller and hader were SP prospects at some point too.

Ah yes.

I would think best case scenario has Crochet in A and possibly AA in 21, with possible Chicago in 22. I don't hate this system gaining a high ceiling arm;  you could argue very easily he's high floor and high ceiling in a position that our system can optimize.

Why do people care so much about Howard?

Round two I still like masyn winn/Jared Jones...but it depends on the college pitchers available. Seems like they won’t be around though.

This used to be true, but not as much anymore. I saw some speculation that the "sore shoulder" from earlier this year was actually an off-field issue. His other injury was a comebacker to the jaw.

ACE program. Not just the hometown kid, but literally the Sox program.

If Kansas City has more picks they won't be.

Watch Howard become a superstar now.
