Magic Number: 2

So today could be clinch day, but it may happen around midnight.

Sox win, Tigers and Mariners lose.

Tonight could be the night.

Stuff it. This franchise hasn't made the playoffs in 12 years and hasn't been close in 8. This team is loaded with guys who have never made a post-season.  You celebrate.  You celebrate like this

  • I think it’s fun ✌️

  • I'm with you. Its sports. Enjoy.

Sox clinch with a win Thursday afternoon...or Tigers and Mariners loss. I'll take the win on the field.

Magic Numbers to stay ahead of-

  • Sea-1
  • Det-1
  • Hou-4
  • Cle-6
  • Tor-7
  • NY-8
  • MIn-9
  • Oak-10
  • TB-11

Zero!

Sox magic number to clinch the division goes from 9 to 6, because of the 5-5 series split with the Twins. Sox have clinched a better division record by pummeling the Royals and Tigers. Good job, boys!

Here's what we have with 10 days left (Sox Magic Number):

  1. Sox 33-17
  2. TB 33-18 (10)
  3. Oak 31-19 (9)
  4. Min 31-21 (6)
  5. NY 29-21 (7)
  6. Hou 25-25 (2)
  7. Cle 27-23 (5)
  8. Tor 26-23 (4)

Tor at Sox; NY at Min...winners to San Diego

Cle at TB; Hou at Oak...winners to Los Angeles

I'd be happy with this order.

man, imagine if Moncada was 2019 version.  Sox would have the best record in baseball I would imagine

I hope that kid gets through whatever this is, cuz I've always said he would have the ceiling of being the best OBP (possibly OPS as well) guy the sox have

I'd be happy with this order.

We need the Blue Jay's to take care of new york and we need to sweep Cleveland out of their own ballpark

Tampa has 3 @Bal, 3 @NYM, and 3 vs Philly.

Oakland has 3 vs SF, 3 @LAD, and 4 vs Seattle.

Twins have 3 @Cubs, 2 vs Det, and 3 vs Cincinnati.

Yankees have 3 @Bos, 4 @Tor, and 3 vs Miami.

Toronto, SF, Miami, Cincinnati, and Philly all still have something to play for and all could have a say in AL seeding.

I’m with ya. He’s been tough to watch this year. Seems likely he’s at 50% at best. Hope we get 2019 Moncada in 21.

In 4 of the last 9 games the Sox are scheduled to face Bauer, Bieber, Plesac, and Darvish.

Damn as long as Darvish pitches the first game of the Sox series, he'll be on normal rest for game 1 of the first series.

That would dramatically increase our chances of facing Cleveland in first round.  Give me Toronto if we’re in the top 2.

I think our ideal path is to lock up the division but slide down to 3.  That practically guarantees us a date with the team with the worst record (the Cheaters), and avoids the Yankees in second round.

My only hope is that the Sox clinch the division before the Cubs series. If that happens, Darvsih can throw a no-hitter and the Cubs can win all three for all I would care. I just don't want the Cubs stopping the Sox from winning the division, and I think that is quite possible. Hopefully the Twins will continue losing.

might as well get used to it.

One less starter for Minnesota in the division chase.

  1. TB 35-18 (9)
  2. Sox 34-18
  3. Oak 33-19 (8)
  4. NY 31-21 (6)
  5. Min 32-22 (4)
  6. Hou 26-26
  7. Cle 28-24 (3)
  8. Tor 26-26

Tor at TB, Min at NY

Cle at Sox; Hou at Oak

Really hoping the Sox can play Houston or Toronto in the first round.

Houston without Verlander is probably the best matchup you can get in the first round. Our best case scenario might be just to grab the 3rd seed and play Houston.

Houston and Toronto look like meat, I would hate the get the second seed and facing Cleveland in a best of 3. 5? sure. But a best of 3 seems scary.

Best of 3 is scary no matter who you play IMO.
