And now Wheeler on the market

Okay so this:

Harper + Wheeler for Grandal + Keuchel + Cease + Heuer + Adolfo

Sign Realmuto

The point of signing a Bauer or trading for a Wheeler is that we have two really good SPs and then junk. What is the purpose of acquiring another good one while giving up one of the two we have?

  • Wheeler let his girlfriend dictate where he landed. He turned down an extra 7m to go to the destination of her choice. The guy is clearly a low testosterone cuck, and I don't want him.

What a surprise, another time you didn't live up to your word.

  • So we are at the Ted Williams' frozen penis point of the offseason I see.   We need a rumor.

For the record, Wheeler has 4 years and $96.5M left on his deal, so effectively a $24.1M AAV.

Given Harper’s no trade clause and McCutcheon being unreadable, Wheeler is without question the one piece they could move to quickly free up some payroll.

I can’t see teams trading for Wheeler with that contract unless the asking price is very low.

What do you guys give up for Wheeler, assuming they don't eat any money in the deal? Stiever + Micker?

The Sox should just take on Wheeler’s whole contract and not have to give up Dunning.

I wonder if the only way a deal gets done is if the Phillies eat some cash. I'd rather the Sox eat his entire salary and not have to deal Dunning.

It is everything, really.  So is that a list of the pitchers you'd like to see on the team most to least (regardless of expected cost in terms of prospect return), or a list factoring in what is in your head as the likely acquisition cost?

The latter. I just don’t like paying for control. Would rather just pay for talent deals.

Add Wheeler (21.5), Pederson (10), Quintana (10), Colome (8) and McGee (7) and Sox payroll goes to about $ 160M.

If they add Wheeler, I don't think you add Q. Sox can hedge their bets on Kopech/Dunning/Cease for the 4 and 5 spots.

That's the $64k question. Can they get Wheeler without trading Cease or Dunning?

Great news. Puts another TOR arm in play and increases our chances of landing a high quality pitcher.

I would include Dunning in a trade for Wheeler. Your not handicapping your future because you would still have pitching depth in the minors with Kopech, Stiever, Crochet, Kelley, Thompson and Dalquist.

They should. Only 2 teams in the league wanted him at his given contract. He bolstered his value a but this year, but is also a year older. A deal revolving around Stiever while eating all his payroll is what I would do. Otherwise, just freaking sign Trevor Bauer.

We can't pay the salary that Philadelphia bid in free agency and throw in meaningful prospects in addition.  The Phils need to settle for salary relief and a token prospect or two.  Emphasis on "token."

I have a bad feeling that a Dunning trade will really bite us in the ass.

Yeah, that's not a horrible idea, depending on how much money Phili kicks in. What do you think is reasonable if that's the trade?

I’d start off with offering to pay 75% of wheelers contract and that’s it. They are not getting any players of note. None.

they are in a tough spot, only a limited number of teams can absorb a K like wheelers so the time is perfect to be a buyer here.

According to Roster Resource, Wheeler is owed a bit more than 21.5/yr.

Zack Wheeler 30.5   5 yr, $118M (2020-24) $23,600,000 $22,500,000 $26,000,000 $24,500,000 $23,500,000

I’m not even high on Dunning and that trade worries me.  Phillies better be eating a decent amount to include that much in return.

There is no better fit for this offense than Harper. Would rather have him than Wheeler, to be honest.  I have a feeling Phillies would be open to trading him.  Also, this guy had the Wheeler stuff yesterday and said Harper is available.

There's just no way the sox take on Harper's contract

And no Harper. As soon as he left the Nats theNats won.coincidence? I think not

I’d give up Kopech, Cease, Dunning, Vaughn for Wheeler AND Harper in a heartbeat, it won’t happen but I’m just saying I would not be hesistant to include any of those guys for *BOTH*
