I'll take a good game caller but a shit framer over the other way around.

Pitchers call games. Catchers merely expedite the process.

Injuries suck no doubt and we are far from seeing the team at it's best. But while still in first how could you not love this team and want to watch ? You had Mercedes in April. You have Vaughn making

  • The season is extraordinarily long and it's really hard to watch bad baseball, they've been playing mediocre baseball for awhile now. It's exhausting to live and die with every out of a baseball seaso

Nah that was out of the zone. The box on tv is well below Sano’s knee

Statcast had it as a strike. It wasn't too far from the first pitch to Sano that was called a strike.

The imaginary TV strike zone is infallible.

I’m starting to wonder if it is adjusted to the batter at all. Seemed to line up against Zack Collins the same for both Sano and Celestine even though Sano is taller with an upright stance while Celestino is crouched. Some guys belt is top of zone, other guys close to the letters

Rain is coming down harder it looks like.

It's the average of the last 50 PAs for the batter.

Crouching isn't supposed to change your strike zone.

Wow, that's a quick inning for the Sox with the "Top of the Sox" order.

At least Eaton made him throw some pitches. Yoan's at bat was pitiful.

Well that could be problematic as the ump is supposed to make call based on batters position for each particular pitch not an average from previous games

I saw a poll on twitter the other day asking if you think the TV strike zone is accurate.  I was going to post it but figured with the way people around here lose their fucking minds about the strike zone it would be 100% yes.

No  he's not. A crouch should have zero impact on a strike zone.

So what looked like at least 65 pitches for Berrios ends up at 52 cause our 2 best hitters decided to get out on the first pitch. Ugh.

You're just so smart Harold. It must be very difficult to watch baseball with so many plebs.

This method is much less efficient than Harold's keen eye.

Really nice change up.

Back to back K’s!

It's pretty hard to strikeout Arraez two times in a row.

nearly an 800 OPS will play, might get better with more consistent playing time

Particularly with pitches on the waist and below from righties. Not so good with the high fast balls

And robot umps will be a thing eventually  you have to think.  Right?

Leury hit that well, but not well enough.

A crouch prior to the pitch that doesn’t reflect the batters actual batting position shouldn’t have any effect, but Celestino clearly assumes a lower actual batting position while Sano a higher one. It is feasible a batter changes his actual batting position, so basing a strike zone on his position from another at bat is faulty. Lengthening the stride for example would lower the batters actual batting position. Hitting with minimal bending of the leg and short stride a higher one
