Offseason Part 2 - Lets the Rumors & Action Begin

I’m not even that excited for the season anymore. The Sox aren’t on the same level as the top tier teams and this was supposed to be the year where they were on that level. Feel like we sat through all those rebuilding years just to get knocked out in the ALDS year after year.

I just got roasted for saying that.

You're both crazy. I'm excited for white sox baseball and baseball in general when we completely suck. Now I get to watch guys like Robert and anderson everyday. Team is fun, exciting and incredibly talented. They haven't received the help they deserve from management but that doesn't take any of the joy away from watching them play.

  • He’s still great on tv.  He’s absolutely brutal on Twitter.  He’s a yes man and he’s a condescending jackass on social media.

  • At least they didn't get roped along all off-season only to get Manny Machado's friends and relatives. It could be a lot worse.

  • So I just got a text from a buddy of mine who is very connected (to MLB not necessarily Sox). Said Sox are on fire right now and close on a couple sizeable moves.

Don’t forget they made one of the best free agent signings by any team last offseason.

I almost feel that more credit should go to Rodon's willingness to come back for almost nothing out of sheer desperation and familiarity over any particular front office brilliance or foresight.

Anyone saying they’re not excited for the season is acting childish IMO.  This is still one of the most talented Sox teams of our lifetime.  Enjoy it now....the window is closing sooner than later.

It’s just frustrating how much of a ripple effect the Kimbrel trade has had.  Awful performance by him last year and now 21 million they can’t spend this year.

Worst part is that they had a chance to redeem themselves this offseason yet they managed to find a way to fuck that up too.

Katz deserves an enormous amount of credit for turning around Rodon and Cease. I would give the front office credit for hiring him as pitching coach, even though it didn't sound like he was their first choice.

Yes, as long as we can watch those two guys...without them, this team is pretty darned boring/vanilla, other than Hendrik's antics.

Can we make a separate thread for people who aren’t excited to just post in there the whole time.  Hell, you and I disagree a lot but we don’t pout and try to one-up each other with our misery.

Eloy and Kopech are two guys you stop what you’re doing to watch.

On the most basic level I like watching the games because I get enjoyment out of it, but this team just isn’t good enough to win the whole thing and that was supposed to be the goal this season.

Giolito is boring? Grandal? Yoan? We have different definitions of boring. Team is as fun a team as I've seen in my life as a sox fan.

The problem with last year was honestly that they had no meaningful games the final 2+ months of the season.

They’re good enough to win if they play to their potential and avoid massive injuries.  If you’re worried about the Dodgers, I will gladly take my chances just to make the WS.

Go back to 2016, 17 and the Robert signing.

Wouldn't you have expected more than just two postseason victories, total?

Yes, maybe we are all a bit spoiled as Sox fans with two consecutive postseasons for the first time inhistory, but we just suffered through nearly a lost decade of Sox baseball.  Maybe not a dynasty, but something MORE than this seems reasonable, doesn't it?

The Braves weren't even close to the best team last year, particularly after all of their injuries. You don't have to be the best team to win, but not having as many holes as the Sox do now would obviously make things much easier. Particularly when right now we're just focused on the roster, but once games start again, we'll be reminded this team plays every game with 1 hand tied behind their back because of the La Russa.

Any team that makes the playoffs can win  the whole thing. The sox were a better team than the Braves last year. You're speaking nonsense.

Those are huge if’s. I don’t think the Sox are even the best team in the AL at this point let alone all of MLB.

Don't you think if there better offers he would have gone elsewhere?

He came back to the Sox because woth his history, no one else would sign him.

I absolutely guarantee every person on this board would have signed up for consecutive playoff appearances in 20/21 after 2017.  So many people are worried about 3-4 years from now instead of living in the present.  That’s also why I’m pissed at how they’ve botched this offseason.

Not even close.  1990 was the most fun for a young fan, right after 2005.

I might even go with the last two or three weeks of 2008, even if we were obviously going nowhere without Quentin.

Seems like that’s the story around here every time we have a good signing. Rodon deserves the credit, McCann signing was total luck, etc.

And that’s not to say there haven’t been some horrible signings, because there have been. But if people are going to criticize every offseason, they should at least acknowledge the good moves.

It's incredible what they did without Acuna, Ozuna and a number of injured pitchers.

First half of 2006 was easily the most fun. Team was incredible and fan base was still happy after 2005.

I mean, it's called an opinion pal. I grew up in the 90's. I'll take these teams.

In 3-4 years we might be questioning if Robert or Eloy should be traded.  We will probably still be wondering about Colas and Cespedes making the majors :)
