Maybe this will finally be the year the Angels build a functional team around the 2 best baseball players on the planet.

I gotta say the fact that angels signed him makes me think he’ll be bad.

What were the Giants thinking?? He might accept and then they'll be stuck with an ace on 1 year deal.

Rendon (will likely get hurt), Urshela, Drury, Fletcher, Rengifo. Where they all playing?

More players than spots is an awesome team building strategy. Build up enough depth and maybe even they can't screw it up.

That's exactly how I felt about Tyler Anderson, lol. Everything they do to improve the team goes horribly wrong.

Drury would have been an awesome fit here.  Oh well.

I don't think it'll happen, but I'd love to see the Sox pick up Profar. He checks a ton of the same boxes.

Profar would be a nice addition, but I think he ends up getting more than Drury. He also doesn't really play 2B anymore.

Don't you think that had more to do with the Padres being loaded with middle infield options than his inability to play 2B?

Do the Angels think he’s allowed to play at Great American Ballpark still?

That and he was pretty awful at it when he was with Oakland in 2019.

The barrel rate and max EV suggest Drury has above average power, but it's fair to wonder if he can sustain that.

Those numbers look like a pretty huge outlier for the rest of his career. Maybe he lost so much athleticism he can't play the infield anymore, but I doubt it.

That's by far the largest sample in any season he's had at 2B.

UZR and OAA both had him ranging between average & slightly below average that year which checks out with the rest of his career. I just think that's putting too much weight on 1 season of DRS numbers.

He had negative OAA numbers in very small samples. If you get him to play 2B in a more or less full-time role, my bet is that he's gonna be at least a -5 run defender there.

I agree with you but that's something I'd be willing to live with.

Wonder what Segura will get. If you can get him at 1/$10M or 1 year with an option, you do it right?

You'd think so, but who knows. With the budget still a huge question, and Hahn operating literally in the exact opposite manner that he said he would (FA vs. trades), I'm not I'd lean towards the Sox adding more FA.

Don't think it effects a possible TA market either way. More so teams that could be in on Correa if he becomes available again. Mets wanted him for sure. Would need to definitely move some players to make it work. Longshot, but could be beneficial.

Bump.

“Play” vs play well?

I have a feeling Conforto's deal will be much lower than we are expecting given the wait.  Somewhere in the range of 10-12 mil. If so, I'd hope we'd be in on that conversation

The guy in the MLBTR chat yesterday predicted 2/$15M for Segura. I would hope that we would be able to add that if that's all he signed for. I would rather add now than try to make a trade for a need mid-season. I wish they could convince Jerry that if they spend a little more, they will be a better team and fans will want to come to the ballpark and spend money.

I think that's a good bet re: segura.

I’d suppose they could but then I bet you see a RP moved to offset the cost. We just don’t know where payroll is going to fall. Makes it hard to judge if they are still players in FA.

Id rather have Guillorme for ReyLo straight up if NYM would go for that than signing Segura. The value is about equal.
