Garbage in garbage out

Im being hard on Kelly but couldnt resist

However it was appropriate for Shaw and the good news is, there are plenty of garbage pitchers like Shaw's left in the minors to bring up. So yes, the Sox farm system of garbage in, garbage out will continue.

If we keep eliminating negative fWAR contributors...either will make progress eventually, or simply have a roster of just a handful of 5-7 players remaining.

I almost posted the same thing last night in the trades thread. The utterly crazy thing is if we trade guys having horrible years like Lynn and Anderson we actually done even have replacement level players for them anywhere in the minors.

Just an incredible indictment of Hahn.

Gotta disagree here…I think he will probably be a popular target for many teams.

This

Nothing major returning, but Jerry will appreciate the $3M plus $1M buyout off his ledger.

Kelly’s bottom-line numbers haven’t been nearly as good as his secondary stats would indicate.

The reliever’s 4.82 ERA is almost a full two runs higher than his SIERA, and Kelly also has only a 56.6% strand rate, while a .319 BABIP has somewhat counteracted his success at keeping the ball on the ground.

Still, opposing teams are very aware of Kelly’s advanced metrics, so the White Sox figure to draw some attention from bullpen-needy clubs.

In his two years with the White Sox, Kelly has pitched in 72 games with a combined ERA of 5.54. He's been a $9 million a season failure.

Once healthy, he pitched well overall.

ERA vs. FIP

  • 2022 6.08 ERA vs. 3.06 FIP
  • 2023 4.82 ERA vs. 3.21 FIP
FIP -- Fielding Independent Pitching
This stat measures a pitcher's effectiveness at preventing HR, BB, HBP and causing SO
(13*HR + 3*(BB+HBP) - 2*SO)/IP + Constantlg

The constant is set so that each season major-league average FIP is the same as the major-league avg ERA.

Remillard in RF has to be one of the most insane roster examples...ofc he made an important error playing there.

"Therein lies the rub" as Shakespeare once wrote "once healthy" He's spent a considerable amount of time of the IL.

He was out most of the first 59 games last season, but has been active all but 27 games since.

If he pitches well this week and has clean medical records, teams won’t have concerns.

2022: Missed games 1-27 & 44-59.

2023: Missed Games 10-25 & 87-99.

Send that to the same marketing team that made the PPT presentations for Harper and Machado...they haven't been busy.

Benintendi signing was one of the quietest this entire offseason.

Hard pass on both $300M + contracts unless a team is committed Top 5 $250M- $300M payroll each season, which the White Sox clearly aren't.

2023 fWAR

  • 2.2 Machado
  • 0.9 Harper
  • 0.5 Joe Kelly
