Fire Chris Getz

Getz rubs me as if he does what he is told to do by JR. It doesn't say much for him  as a person. I realize that these GM jobs don't come around very often. But still, if I'm right about him following orders from JR he should resign. He can't be baseball stupid and has to realize this team isn't any good. He could have easily made this team better this off season and didn't. I've mentioned in the past how I wanted to be  interviewed for the GM job by JR. If JR would have had the good sense to hire me and if I had my hands tied by him I would resign.

Balta made this exact same argument repeatedly about Hahn...especially after they bypassed his decision to hire AJ Hinch and went with TLR instead.

Ofc, making $500-750,000 or whatever his salary with the White Sox is pretty significant, family-future altering money if he can collect it for another 2-3-4 seasons.

He might not get another GM job in his lifetime with 2 of the 5 worst teams of all-time (125 years) of MLB history on his resume, regardless of the circumstances he inherited from Hahn and JR (budget-wise).

    An accurate graphic

  • Why don’t you tell us why there was no alternative?  Or why you believe so strongly in everything he has done in house, that is not visible or even quantifiable?  Or why we should accept him as “bette

  • I'll do my guy a favor and save @WestEddy some time for writing his own reply, and do it for him, because I'm a mensch.  "I'M NOT STICKING UP FOR THEM? WHERE DID I SAY I WAS STICKING UP FOR THEM?

Even if you wanted to give Getz the benefit of the doubt at this point (and I do think there are some elements of truth to the idea it’s too early to fully judge him) I keep going back to a very simple premise…

In what world should ANYONE trust the judgment and decision making of Jerry Reinsdorf? There is MORE than enough history to tell us a majority of his hiring decisions and motivations do not support any semblance of winning results on the field (or court)

Because we’re been subjected to so much, Getz is simply guilty by association. Being hand selected by Jerry is a GIANT red flag that it’s the wrong guy.

That’s how I know Getz isn’t the man for this job. Because Jerry picked him.

I mean red flag #1 is either Chris waited a year to clean house, or the whole idea that Chris has authority to do what he needs to do is false and Jerry put him off for a year despite telling us all this was a rush job.

Would have been MUCH MUCH better off if we 1) traded Robert for a haul after 2023, and 2) didn't sign Benintendi, but hindsight is always 20/20 ofc.

Really, it's just scarier to think that they ACTUALLY believed they were entering 2024 with a team that could actually compete in the AL Central.

There is no other man for the job. No other reputable executive in Baseball would take a meeting with JR, be told that even though they're last in payroll and worst in Baseball history, you'll be given no money with which to turn it around, and then take the job. Nobody. Except someone with no real talent, no indication of know how or talent evaluation skills, and no prospects of moving up the ladder in any other way.

To be fair, they were the #15 payroll team in 2023 (roughly $180 million), and entered 2024 theoretically competing:

19, White Sox, $117,773,333 ; 20, Royals, $105,219,570 ; 21, Nationals, $95,371,429 ; 22, Tigers, $95,073,933.

Obviously now they're all the way down to 29th, barely ahead of the Marlins...at least until they dump Luis Robert, although the Marlins might also be trading Alcantara, so it's a close overall race for the very bottom.

(One could actually argue the Rockies have the worst situation, overall, because they have the most competitive division in baseball, all things considered.)

I generally agree with this, but I think the terms “hand selected” and “picked” are giving a little too much credit to Jerry’s process.

I liken his hiring process to changing channels on tv and then the remote dies, but being too lazy to get up to replace the batteries so you just leave on whatever channel is on.

That's fair they were. However we all knew they'd slash tremendously and I guarantee Getz was told as much. I love when Getz tells us they're not going to "take shortcuts" in the process. The shortcuts being signing quality players.

Bump…if there was ever a game to bet on the Red Sox, it’s Palacios at DH.

Sure tell.

Vargas is a bust.  Great acquisition, Getz!

I also like your .600 OPS DH Nick Maton.

4-15.  On pace for 34 wins.

Worst GM in baseball for two years in a row.

Season over for the 2nd year in a row before Easter. Fire this bum.

7.5 games back before Easter.  🤣

Out of our 26 man roster, how many will be in baseball in three years? I can see maybe half the roster at best with some notables playing overseas or just barely hanging on as NRI types.  I'd probably waive or just DFA 3-4 guys in the next month and rotate in some other slop. There's really nothing to lose other than a few million on the payroll, which to be fair might be too big of ask for our shithole franchise.

And even right now, how many players on this team would actually make the cut on any other MLB team?  What Getz has done is an embarrassment.  A GM actually trying to intentionally fail would have had more success than Getz.

major-league.gif"The longest losing streak of consecutive road games in Chicago White Sox history is 14 games, set during the 1924 season. The losing streak started on Jul 22, 1924 with a 1-4 away loss to the Washington Senators and ended on Aug 27 with a 12-9 away win over the Philadelphia Athletics."

Then there was the 20+ consecutive losses in games started by Chris Flexen...

This goes deeper than Getz. All of this is happening under the guise of rebuiding. Rebuilding is always a risk. But as time goes on, we should see at least some improvement somewhere. Instead, we see regression and a record setting number of losses.

This is simply not a major league team. I don't see hope in the near future. I certainly don't see a string of championships coming down the pike. The credibility of the franchise is being destroyed. Time for the rebuild to end. Time to put real major league players on the team.

Getz is a failure.  This team was out of the race by the middle of April. This team could not be competitive at the AA level.

You give the Sox too much credit. That kid actually made contact at the end.

Well, they’re not going to spend the money to make that happen, so…

If this team sets the loss record again, then Getz needs to be fired full stop.

This statement seems so obviously true, but I seriously doubt that Getz would be fired anyway. Any other team in baseball (or any sport) would fire their GM in such a situation, but I don’t think we would.

He'll probably get a promotion

Just based on sheer luck, we should be better than last year.  I mean, it’s almost impossible to be that bad again.  And yet here we are, nearly an 1/8 of the way through the season and we are on pace for 34 wins.  I still think that we end up above 41 wins, but good god the optics will be terrible if we don’t.  I mean, this is what Jerry said after last season.  How could he keep Getz after another all time loss record?
