We might see short term success and long term failure as usual. Not spending money will bring us back to not having nice things.

Even then, top prospects like Bonemer and Cholowsky are not guaranteed to perform right off the bat...

But why is it that the Sox consistently have a 2nd tier farm (except when it's temporarily inflated from trades?). I don't think the drafting has been particularly impressive, but I'm in the deep minority with that position. I think evaluation is really hard and mostly inaccurate ( much more so than NFL), so you really need the quantity.
And the international for sure has been wanting.
And Hostetler is still around....

Anyway, Getz might need the Doug Collins treatment. He's really spit the bit the last 2 months.

JR isn't going to fire him and admit for all to see his judgement in hiring him was completely wrong. Ishbia will but not JR.

It is but the Brewers put that theory away. They have yet to win a World Series but look at the trades they made or let players go. They still win, Winning is a habit. So is losing.

Need three legs of the stool. The draft, prospect trades, and the international kids.

There needs to be a sliding scale. Getz’s moves for guys like Vargas, Kay, Fedde, Newcomb, etc. should be praised, but he should also eat s%*# for the worst trades in trade deadline history.

As injury-prone as Robert is and was, all you got for him was a backup utility buster? Still amazing.

They were getting nothing from International. I believe the 2027 class will be Keller's first full class attributable to his work, alone. And whether you want to believe Getz sucks at trades, or he was left with a bunch of bad rep players, he didn't get much from trading his "A" tier (Vaughn, Robert, Jimenez, Moncada, Cease, Kopech, Crochet, Bummer).

They were upper middle tier, really, just on their drafting and the Crochet trade. Quero was top 10, also.

Kay is pretty much a neutral move.

For the $$$, Fedde has been more valuable down the stretch, filling a variety of roles.

And Vargas/Mune/Kolson have all come crashing back down to earth, to the point where their current trade values are less to other organizations than a return to their July/early August values would be to the Sox.

Then there's just the now obvious real flaw that looks increasingly apparent of building around a core of high K hitters that are prone to lengthy slumps.

The choices the previous regime made were clearly flawed, especially the early extensions.

But but but what have they actually built this time around that's inherently better...comparing this year's results to 2019?

But the pitching was never meant to sustain the stress of a pennant race THIS season.

Vargas is the 2nd best 3B in the game by fWAR. He's in a slump.

What have they built now? They can develop hitters. They're not reliant on trading for top 10 prospects and just plugging them in. I know it "remains to be seen", but they also seem to be getting value out of the rest of the draft. Antonacci in the 5th round and Baldwin out of the 12th are epiphones.

Having just promoted 7 prospects over the last 2 seasons, they're stretched pretty thin. But if Colson is really going to strike out at a 40% rate, they have Caleb Bonemer in AAA next year. They started with a weak OF and plugged in 3 prospects. There's a lot better depth.

As far as pitching, I was thinking how woeful they look right now, but they stand a chance of coming to spring training with a dozen rotation candidates on the 40-man or in AAA. We've never had that kind of depth.

Being so cocky that you think you can coach pitching better than the Mariners will always be a bad look for Getz.

It's amazing the holes they filled in the outfield. What is your take on Hagen being the closer next season and possibly moving Taylor to SP?
