If the Red Sox really wanted to they could beat the Orioles position player package too with a superior position package of their own. If the rumored trade is true LAD is giving up 30m SV in exchange for about 10m if you go by BTV. That's a significant premium for pitching...even flawed pitching. They've got Cease valued at 40m. In this market there's about 10 teams interested. He could easily fetch 50-55m in SV in return in this market and maybe well more. If there's really a 20m premium in this market, the Sox could reasonably ask for Cowser, Norby, Bradfield and Povich from BAL. All 4. They could also ask for Anthony and Teel from BOS. And the rumored 4 player ask of CIN (Lowder, Petty, Jorge, Stafura) might be a bit light. Again IF this is the market. Edited December 13, 20232 yr by SoCalChiSox

And it's funny because even though they have the massive payroll and they've continuously added superstars year-in and year-out, the only ones they've signed as free agents are Freeman and Ohtani.

As long as another team can make a similarly strong offer as the O’s, we can still hope for a haul.

December 13, 20232 yr Rays clearing tons of payroll. Around $35 million by my count, as Margot was set to make $10 million coming off a 0.4 fWAR season (2022 was surprisingly good). They might be in on Cease now, too. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2023/12/12/wander-franco-dominican-republic-mlb-investigation-spring-training/ Edited December 13, 20232 yr by caulfield12

December 13, 20232 yr For now they have Margot, Outman, Chris Taylor, Heyward and Betts splitting time in RF/2B. Rays really can’t trade Arozarena until they know results of Franco investigation. Edited December 13, 20232 yr by caulfield12

December 13, 20232 yr Author None of the big insiders are reporting this yet, so very real chance this could be fake. However, this dude posted last night and claims Glasnow is going to the Dodgers alongside Arozarena and not Margot. Obviously take all with a massive grain of salt.
