Sox were an AL team in 1916, so it should count for something. Split with the Angels, get swept by the Padres and Tigers and finish 38-124 (.2345679).

That’s the record I’m hoping for. Anything after that is icing on the tombstone.

I think 40-122 puts you clearly behind the 40-120 Mets. 41-121 has more losses than the Mets but a better winning percentage, that would be a tie in the standings with the White Sox listed ahead. 40-122 puts the White Sox 1 game behind.

I think there’s still room for argument if they win as many as the Mets. Most likely the Mets would have lost two more but no guarantee. 39-123 removes all doubts.
