With the reality that they can't pick any better than 10th overall in the 2025 draft, there really is no incentive to just be straight awful. They might as well try whatever they can to extract as much value as they can from the roster this season. Hopefully, Pham can come in and provide SOMETHING that can help this team in the future.
April 16, 20241 yr I'm just wondering where he's going to play. Benintendi is playing because JR is paying. Fletcher in CF, and Grossman in RF. Sheets will probably get OF reps with Eloy back. Even in Pillar is cut, he ain't playing.

April 16, 20241 yr Tommy is a pros pro, no nonsense guy. He will bring value to the club and could mentor some of the youngsters.
April 16, 20241 yr I feel like this is a signing that should have happened 12 months ago, from a clubhouse standpoint.

Wait…so people complained about Getz not signing free agents like Michael Taylor in the offseason and now they’re also complaining about signing Pham? What gives?

Release Grossman and Benintendi and go with Pham, Fletcher, Colas and Pillar, until Robert comes back
April 18, 20241 yr I think Pillar is gone. Pham will play almost everyday (that's why he signed here) either in LF/CF. Sheets will shift between RF/1b and Grossman and Fletcher between CF/RF. Benintendi is going to see his PT greatly reduced.

What gives? Signing guys in the offseason with a clean record versus signing additional free agents after the worst historic start in team history? Yeah, there’s no difference here. C’mon… At least when the Sox had a 0-0 record, it made some sense. But you already knew the answer to your question before you posted this drivel. If you want to argue signing guys to flip them at the deadline then Taylor is still more desirable because he can actually play defense. The fact that no team wanted Pham before the season started already shows you aren’t going to get much for him in a trade unless he tears the cover off the ball when they finally add him to the team. It's amazing how getting off to one of the worst starts in the history of baseball makes people question someone's ability to GM.

Taylor is still a starting CF, and probably wouldn't have come to Chicago to be the weak half of a corner OF platoon. Pham had offers all winter. He just thought he'd get more. You're a guy who complains that every cheap contract on the team is a player being overpaid. You should be happy the Sox stayed firm, and probably got Pham for a much lower payroll hit in April than they would have in January. Taylor is currently OPSing .609 in Pittsburgh. If he were doing that in Chicago, you'd be railing on that you could have told us before ST he would suck that bad.

I had to drop Suwinski in a league because he was sitting for the lefties so much and sucked when he was playing. Taylor will be primary CF I’m sure. Edited April 25, 20241 yr by Bob Sacamano
