Not quite as much of a concern not being a high 90s fireballer and not having that long history of MLB innings...but something to definitely consider.

The White Sox are not going to sign Fedde to an extension. They would need to commit minimum $18-20 million per year for multiple years if he is this low 3 ERA guy. Let some other team that doesn't care about money make that signing.

0 era in 12 innings in AA with 11.7 so/9. Sure he's nobody but how did we get literally anyone for Grossman

Trading him this early opens up the possibility that he sucks at Texas, gets DFA'd, picked up by the Sox, gets on another hot streak, and gets traded AGAIN before the deadline.

This guy might not work out, but signing Grossman accomplished something.

Surely JR has never even considered it even once.

I mean we should be hording anyone with 5 to 6 years of control so who we got isn't the problem.   The problem is most of the guys we signed will have even less trade value.

Do you celebrate a good return for a bad signing? Or do you celebrate an ok return for a great signing?

Just to be clear, my issue is not with the return; rather, it is with the signing itself. AHT was available last rule 5. To get him, we did not have to sign a lousy player.

Me I want the club to target high-end prospects who have the potential to make a difference, and you only get that for rentals that are considered significant players at the deadline.

Why not both?

We aren't going to sign high end players who will command multiple top-100 prospects at the deadline. No such player would want to sign here right now.

So why not sign guys who are reclamation projects like Fedde, Grossman, etc., who can bring some lottery tickets in return? The only "significant" trade pieces are basically the ones we've already got/had like Cease and Robert.

Speas was DFAed to add Grossman. Traded to Oakland for cash considerations.

So essentially Speas traded for AHT. Relievers, always a fungible crapshoot

Did he just stop playing this year?

He went on the restricted list April 7th, then was assigned to the ACL in June. Maybe he retired, or something.

This is why the playing time for youth is usually more valuable than whatever you end up getting for these mediocre vet signings.

That would be the second guy to retire from trade returns last year.  Trey McGough from the Eloy trade already retired.

Only if they are ready. Many a prospect can be set back if there aren't mentally ready.
