Venable named new Sox Manager-per Merkin

I suspect that Venable agreed to a long term rebuild plan similar to Getz' concept of a rebuild plan, i.e., exploring all low cost in-house options for talent, "developing" those players for a few years  and meanwhile, abstaining from spending on free agents.

It's a narrative crushing hire.  They didn't hire the LaRussa guy, the cheap guy or the ex-Royal guy.  They hired the best available young manager who has turned down other manager jobs which means Ch

Very possibly true, or both Venable and Getz can be following direct orders from JR as to what they are going to be doing.

Way to put your ass on the line and predict it

It’s day two and Ron is already writing paragraphs that rival Caulfield.

It will be interesting to see if Venable is the real deal or if Getz will sabotage his managerial career with poor roster decisions.

Ron?  Or Cali?

Where did it go?

I didn’t see a Ron post.  It was Cali.  I would have recognized some unnecessary Abreu trolling if it was a Ron post.  🤣

Thought it would have political overtones this close to the election...

What if I told you it could be both?

Yup.

Ron is Cali’s name that I use when we watch games together in rare occasions. 👌🏻

Of course dumping failure all on Getz does not leave open the possibility that Venable is not the real deal.

See Detroit, with hinch under Avila vs new GM.

The one thing the Sox could offer him was to be front and center apart of something like building the team from ground zero. He never really had a position like that in other orgs and always was behind someone else. Hopefully spending time in and around as many good organizations helps him be successful. I still don't think anything changes until Jerry is 6 feet under, but it would be nice to have some type of competence on the field in the near future.

I was coached well in creative writing classes.Plus my daddy taught me how to recognize BS. Caulfield is a nice man who takes way more abuse than he should. I don't like people whose sense of humor revolves around making fun of others. It's wolfpack bullying garbage. The one time I got suspended on here was sticking up for a guy I thought was being picked on . Which was ironic being suspended because I felt compelled to agressively defend someone who was being aggressively maligned which is allowed but being an aggressive good Samaritan was not allowed.

I'd be fine with your dumbass managing this team. That's how little a manager matters to a team void of talent and hope.

I don't pay to watch Will make pitching changes and post a lineup but maybe that's your thing.

I like Ray Ray's posts cause they are relentless in blasting the Sox. And the Sox deserve all the negativity out there. True a manager doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things but we can hope this new manager will at least 'remind' Getz and other front office types how bad these players are when they catch heat for losing 15 in a row in April or May. Little surprised the new manager would take this job with such a poor roster. Venable knows how bad these players really are.

Venable is basically guaranteed a 3-5 year run as manager...because the next person fans will blame is the GM or owner when the personnel level is so bad.

It would almost be impossible to equal the ineptitude of Grifol...and nobody expect the team to approach .500 until 2027 at the earliest.  No Adam Dunn FA signings to excite or motivate the fanbase to have unrealistic expectations either.

So multiply $750-900k per year over that time frame...it starts to make a lot more sense than Miami.  Look at the career longevity of the majority of their front office and managers in the last 10-15 years.

Yeah but Venable has to coach these stiffs. His whole reputation is ruined after they lose 110 or so. They can't pay a person enough to watch this kind of baseball day in and out. Why not wait for a real team to offer??

This is the incompetent, dysfunctional and inept White Sox organization.

Never say never.

But just think if they actually make the playoffs eventually...?  (Everyone's already expecting you to be the worst team in baseball for the next year or two, and you're not adding significantly via Free Agency...)

All the credit will likely go to that manager and GM, so you essentially have nothing to lose (except for time, opportunity cost) and the Marlins job is far from a sure thing with the Braves and Phillies in that division, and even Washington on the rise now.

Assuming Venable couldn't get any assurances in Texas that he was going to eventually take over for Bruce Bochy, and when that handover was actually going to take place...a World Series team (well, one year removed) is just as likely to go after a more experienced Skip Schumaker, Buck Showalter, Fredi Gonzalez, etc.

Getz supporters are saying he is slowly bringing in good baseball people into the organization. He then believes that the organization will acquire and develop talent. He keeps warning fans that it will take a long time. When will the team contend for something? One can only guess but expectations are low for the immediate future.

I am one that believes a manager is important. And so is the remaining franchise infrastructure. Bringing in knowledgeable baseball people can only help after years of incompetence. But money still has to be spent, and free agency cannot be ignored.

The team has to at least show some kind of progress. Promising a great future while losing 100 games will get old. Just what is the 2025 roster going to look like?

Well, if Fedde for $15 million over two years is considered expensive...it's going to be Flexen and Rea types.

Better just go with all youth unless there's just no other legitimate or feasible choice.

Empathy is a wonderful thing. Lacking it let's you know when you're dealing with a douche right up front.

If they were going to take a long time couldn't they have done a real GM search instead of bumping up the guy that failed at development?  I thought the entire point of this clown was to not take a long time.

Fans don't owe Getz or even the organization in general their allegiance.  I suspect a lot will be gone if and when they improve not to mention a generation of youngsters who will never grow up as Sox fans.
