If I'm the Dodgers with as much talent and depth as they have I'd much rather give the internal options a chance than bring in a guy who has been hurt constantly and that will cost them a lot of money when you factor in luxury tax penalties.

Which options are you referring to?  Roster Resource currently has Outman as the Dodger’s CF.

They could also play a better defensive SS and hit him 9th, move Betts to 2B, and put Edman back in CF.

I hope both teams connect on a trade though.

Kopech had a lot of Sox stank attached to him last year and the Dodgers turned him around in a hurry. I wonder what their clubhouse relationship was and if the Dodgers approach Kopech and ask "can this guy ball if he gets out of that swamp?"

I wouldn't write this off just because Robert smells like the Sox right now.

Dodgers are an example of a team that seeks every advantage possible including by spending more than other teams. They aren't going to sit on their laurels because they are already projected for 95 wins. No, they will always seek to get better. Hopefully they are involved in Robert as their involvement will draw out more offers.

I mean it's March 12th. You can probably go back 100 years and find 3-4 examples of a player like Robert being traded in March. It's just not a time when teams are motivated to make deals for various reasons.

I agree. But the Dodgers aren't going to tell the Sox that. At some point one team will want a deal more and they will lose the trade.

Yes and I think the correct decision to this point his been to wait. If he stays healthy and goes like 270/330/500 for a couple months you're going to get 30-40% more on the dollar in a trade then at any point in the last year. The downside risk of another injury is worth the squeeze.

I think the Dodgers lack desperation since they know they are going to the playoffs next year no matter what and can wait and see if Getz panics.

Not unless they are willing to start with Dominguez.  The Yankees farm hitters are one of the few franchises that saw a worse year than the Sox one's had.

It's more common now but still rare. Don't think Suarez was traded in spring. I'll soften my argument to in this case it doesn't make sense to trade him until he proves he is healthy and productive, regardless of prior spring deals.

That makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm certainly not going to over offer to the White Sox who arguably need Robert less than the Dodgers need him.

They have Pages, Outman and k*** Rodriguez that can all play CF.

It's not a crisis, it's just that it's NOT an All-Star/MVP caliber player at every position, lol.

Hardly requires a desperation trade for Robert.  The White Sox are inarguably more interested in dumping the salary than they are in their prospect return, that's how they have almost always operated under JR.

 

Otherwise, we'd be "buying" a prospect or two from the Mets to take back Starling Marte's contract.

Likewise, Steve Cohen won't give away too much, knowing the value of a top prospect is worth a lot more than $15 million FV.  It works BOTH ways here.  Need two willing parties to strike a deal.

They can also just wait until the trade deadline and pick up a rental or whatever for a playoff run then.  It’s not like they need to pay for April-July.
