White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert

I don't know if I should start a new thread to announce this, but I have changed my thinking, and want the Sox to hold out for a better return that reflects Robert's true value. I don't know who made the argument, but we're actually flush on 35-40 FV prospects. We need to start amassing the heavy hitters, 50+ dudes. Robert can bring that back if a team blinks.

If Robert gets injured again, or otherwise tanks his value, I'm not missing another couple William Bergolas or Jemal Perezes.

Bergolla and Perez are 45 FV

  • I do not see Robert getting traded, as it would likely mean they sold low on him Sox are better off keeping him and hoping that he rebuilds his trade value

The whole world thought Nick was a high first round pick.  If the Sox didn't select him, someone else would have.  The Sox failed in developing him.  Luis Arraez and Kwan show you that it CAN be done

If they are getting two top guys they want, just eat the money and be done with it.

Still not going to move the meter to anywhere but mired in mediocrity at best.

Stars/superstars is the only way out of this...and we're in the process of dumping the two remaining special players in Crochet and Robert for an uncertain future at best.

That and thedraft 1-1 draft slot are the only ways out of the quagmire.

It’s very unlikely you’re getting a special player in return for Robert now or in the future

Not if he returns to 2023 form, which is very much possible

I agree this is probably true for now. New ownership arriving changes the dynamic potentially.

This is why you trade for guys whose stock is down, like Lux/Outman/Baty/Gilber

Lux stock is not down.  He was nothing short of spectacular during the 2nd half.

Mock trade that ChatGPT came up with for me:

Sure! Here’s a potential trade scenario involving Luis Robert being traded to the Cincinnati Reds:

Trade: Luis Robert to the Cincinnati Reds

Chicago White Sox receive:

• RHP Hunter Greene

• OF Spencer Steer

• IF Noelvi Marte

Cincinnati Reds receive:

• OF Luis Robert

Trade Breakdown:

• For the White Sox:

The White Sox get a young, high-upside pitcher in Hunter Greene, who has the potential to be a front-of-the-rotation arm. They also get Spencer Steer, a versatile infielder and strong hitter who can help the team in multiple positions. Noelvi Marte is one of the Reds’ top prospects, and he adds even more young talent to the White Sox system, potentially offering a future cornerstone in the infield.

• For the Reds:

The Reds acquire Luis Robert, who has the tools to be a five-tool star. Adding Robert to their outfield would give them an elite defensive presence and a powerful bat. The Reds have a young, promising lineup, and Robert could be the missing piece in an already potent offense as they look to compete in the NL Central.

This trade would be a bit of a gamble for both teams: The White Sox get a package of high-potential players that could help build for the future, while the Reds make a big push to win now with Robert’s elite talent in the outfield.

And here’s one with the Dodgers!  At least we don’t have to worry about a Skynet scenario anytime soon!

Here’s a potential trade scenario involving Luis Robert being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers:

Trade: Luis Robert to the Los Angeles Dodgers

Chicago White Sox receive:

• OF James Outman

• LHP Bobby Miller

• INF Michael Busch

Los Angeles Dodgers receive:

• OF Luis Robert

Trade Breakdown:

• For the White Sox:

The White Sox acquire James Outman, a talented young outfielder who has shown he can hit at the major league level and has strong defensive tools. Bobby Miller is one of the Dodgers’ top pitching prospects, and his power stuff could make him a future ace. Adding Michael Busch, a versatile infielder with a solid bat and the potential to contribute in various spots, gives the White Sox further depth and future pieces to build around.

• For the Dodgers:

The Dodgers get Luis Robert, a dynamic, five-tool outfielder who would immediately improve their lineup and defense. With Robert’s combination of speed, power, and elite fielding ability, he would provide a significant boost to their outfield and overall roster. The Dodgers are in win-now mode, and Robert’s skill set fits well alongside their already deep lineup, making them even more dangerous in both the regular season and postseason.

This trade would make sense for both teams, with the White Sox getting a mix of high-ceiling young players and the Dodgers adding a proven, all-around talent to strengthen their championship aspirations.

Yes, which is why we have some time before AI takes over the world.

Even if this is true, why would acquiring Lux with only two years of control remaining make any sense for the White Sox in their current state?

Spectacular at what?

He was under a 678 hitter for every month but two...July and August he was white hot.  But that only averages out to a .703 OPS, which still would have been right there with everyone's favorite 1B, Andrew Vaughn.

-2.1 defensively even with the position change from SS to 2B...that doesn't scream the centerpiece of any trade, because two years of Lux just equals (maybe a QO) but likely another trade/flip before free agency.  Then they start over again with the next iteration of Vargas.

Yeah, that’s the big question to me.

He actually was quite good in the second half, but I still don’t understand what he does for the White Sox in their more than likely next two losing seasons in 2025 and 2026 before he becomes a free agent.

I like trying to convince ChatGPT that all of society has changed since it was programmed in 2020, so, "with the new knowledge that ... [insert some goofiness here] ..."

I know everyone has their favorites but the Lux fascination at this point in his career is bizarre to me.

If he had 4-5 years of control left, sure, let’s go after him.

If he was a legitimate major league SS, I'd almost be for it....allowing Montgomery to concentrate more fully on his offensive game and making the transition to 3B (hopefully not first, where his bat wouldn't be as much of a plus or added value.)

But we already have FIVE players (including Vargas and now Meidroth) who profile best at second base.

Didn't we learn from before when the Dodgers told us by their playing time decisions that Grandal wasn't a strong defensive catcher and Pollock was definitely not a RFer by any stretch of the imagination???

Yep, I’m just waiting for his rationale.  There could be an argument to acquire Lux to flip him but I doubt it would be worth it overall considering what Getz would have to give up for him in the first place.

Robert for Lux alone makes just about zero sense.

At the very least, get someone back from LA that can play a credible CF....probably Outman, since they won't as easily give up Pages.

Luis Robert could have 2 weeks of team control left and I wouldn't trade him for 2 years of Gavin Lux. What are we doing here?
