Sure, but someone with a new title did it, so it's all good.

  • I guess I'd rather just roll with the young guys, or sign someone better that might actually have trade value.  Just another guy that best case scenario we're getting someone else's junk.  But at $3.5

  • If noone sees it.....did you really give up a 420 foot blast??

So are the posters who thought that the Sox are loaded with starting pitching and need them to get innings upset by this addition by Getz?

Yeah I never understood that. They need a guy like this. Honestly I'd bring back Flexen, too. Going to need A LOT of innings.

So now they need to remove 2 guys from the 40-man, correct? Never saw who was DFA'd for Rojas.

Yep.  The Rojas acquisition hasn’t been made official yet.

The White Sox have been interested in Martin Perez for a very long time. They tried to get him in the Alex Rios/Leury Garcia trade.

Shewmake was, pretty sure. This one is going to be Scholtens I'd guess.

Edit - Oh yeah, Shewmake was another move.

Yeah it is nice to get a bit more dependable innings into the rotation than we were looking at before.  We have SOOOOOO many innings to cover, it makes sense to at least have some experienced professionals here.

No, I'm pretty sure he was the corresponding move for the move prior to Rojas (Gilbert maybe?).

And in true White Sox fashion, they acquire him at the ripe young age of 33.

So much winning, it is hard to keep score at home.

Shewmake was DFA to make room for the acquisition of Tyler Gilbert.

Yeah you are correct. So it'll be Scholtens and...not sure. Deloach? Colas?

He was pretty good with the Padres in 2024.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. But they do need more starters, and he does work some innings, even if usually very mediore.

Scholtens would definitely be my first choice.  Old and bad is bad.

But I’m not sure on the second cut.  It’s bad when the players you are adding to the 40-man don’t seem to be worth much more than the guys you have to cut to make room for them.

Part of me wonders if there is a trade in the works (Martin or something) that would clear a spot, which is why they haven't announced their signing from last week.

*Getz, looking over his shoulder at the marlins*
”must….keep….OD payroll above theirs”

He’ll be wishing he was still pitching in Petco after a few starts at Rate.

The wild thing are the Marlins are literally the only team in baseball who has spent $0 on a free agent this year.  Imagine being outspend by the 121 loss White Sox.

I'm not sure if I'm one of those people, but nope. I think four rotation spots should belong to Cannon, Martin, Thorpe and Burke. After Getz' rough first off-season, I think they have to be prepared to run a good dozen guys out there to start games. There will be injuries, retooling, as we saw last year with Flexen and Cannon, and maybe one or more might be better suited for relief.

Just like the Rojas signing, I think they're going to need bodies to run out there.

I do think that on paper they have more arms who should be starting in the big leagues than they have spots for to start the year, but I can't be too mad about having an extra option because no one ever makes it all the way through April without an injury or two.

There is always talk about having too many pitchers, but when was the last time we actually had it come to a head?  Like Brandon McCarthy?  I will believe it when it actually happens.

1 for $5M for a veteran to eat innings and potentially flip is a solid deal.
