Murfee or Ellard is my guess.  I don't think they cut Colas just yet (maybe that is just a hope).

They just agreed to a contract with Murfee. It’s gotta be Scholtens.

Sure, but someone with a new title did it, so it's all good.

  • I guess I'd rather just roll with the young guys, or sign someone better that might actually have trade value.  Just another guy that best case scenario we're getting someone else's junk.  But at $3.5

  • If noone sees it.....did you really give up a 420 foot blast??

Can Scholtens go on the 60 day IL yet? Is his recovery still occurring?

They can put him on at the start of spring training to open up a 40-man spot. The 60 days would start at the beginning of the season so he would be eligible to come off the IL at the end of May.

Hope perez pitches well and they can trade him for someone who can actually help down the road when it actually matters.

Has this move ever been made official?

According to their roster, no.

Thanks…I don’t believe a corresponding roster move has been made yet, so figured as much.

Still my guess when it ever gets announced.

5.29 ERA

1.53 WHIP

100 hits, 30 walks, and 58 strikeouts in 85 innings

By GAWD, Scholtens is bad.

Yeah, it's been so long that I completely forgot that it wasn't even made official yet.

Much like his career with the Sox will be.

Seriously…I had to go to page 2 to find this thread

Why again would he sign here? I suppose we have the pitching guru and there’s the certainty of basically guaranteeing himself a playoff spot via trade deadline season.

Could it be $$$?

This.  Dude is a 33 year old, 1 WAR, run of the mill starter.  He’s just taking whatever money he can get at this stage in his career.

See Flexen.

Although he really saved the Padres in August and September last year.

Totally stadium and defense/offense behind him, though.

Still nada?

They are saving this big announcement to impress the SoxFest attendees.

Ron Marinaccio DFAed. That's a bit of a surprise.

He was in that group of 4-5 guys that I figure would be on the chopping block for this move/future moves where a younger, more interesting option becomes available.

Marinaccio actually looked pretty interesting. I wonder why they're so stuck on Scholtens.

cutting marinaccio, a made-up player who doesn't exist. getz playing some 4D chess over here.

Only thing I can think of is they will 60-day IL him in a month and will open up a 40-man spot while holding depth. Granted, he’s not that special and can be cut anyway.

Agreed, seems like a questionable decision as Marinaccio has actually been a pretty good, albeit unknown reliever in his career.  Scholtens was pretty bad last year and he wasn’t even that good in the minors.  Another team will snatch Marinaccio up off waivers.

That would make sense if Scholtens was any good to begin with, but he isn’t.  Marinaccio is better.
