Michael A. Taylor Signed

I had the lowest of expectations heading into the offseason, and somehow Getz managed to disappoint.  Every signing seems to be of someone with absolutely no upside.

Just bodies that will bring nothing back in July.

Low-risk, low-reward, low pay.

  • I absolutely loathe the Sox offseason. It makes no fucking sense.

  • Been talking about these changes all year on the FutureSox podcast. The article from Fegan was really informative today. Highly recommend for all.  Come on, man. You know Chris Getz sucks, the

  • True, but he’s the only one with the potential to put up big numbers and carry the team for a week or two. If he’s traded, this year’s roster makes last year’s roster look solid.

They never learn…keep signing a lot of low, crappy contracts. At this point, sign Kimbrel.  Maybe he has a strong first half and a team will go after him.

I liked Kenley for that role but too much money for what JR is allowing I guess.

$10 million?  Oh yeah.

Soon to be 1/5th of payroll for a future HoF?

Priceless...

Once Robert is traded, will this be one of the oldest outfields in baseball!?

LF  Benintendi (turning 31 in July)

CF  Taylor (34)

RF  Tauchman (34) / Slater (32)

Makes sense. He’s your prize trade chip let him DH a little more than you would have the last couple years.

Edit: that is, if he isn’t traded before season

I am impressed he could type that while laughing at it.

Fegan's tweets feels like smokescreen to me. Getz loves his cheap washed up vets and all, but even Merkin questions whether Robert makes it through Spring Training on the roster - https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-spring-training-2025-storylines

I would bet that he doesn’t make it to Opening Day

100% agree. I don't think they give Taylor a guaranteed deal unless they expected to need him on a regular basis.

Correction.  The White Sox love their cheap washed up vets.  The GM changes but the strategy remains the same.

Grandal Keuchel Lynn Liam Kimbrel Graveman Kelly Encarnacion Alonso...or expensive washed up vets.

(Well maybe Liam doesn't quite belong after everything he endured.)

So who is on waivers?

They can 60-day IL Bush and Scholtens when they report to camp this week. So no move necessary.

This isn't a way to run a franchise. Have the fans wondering if you possibly can have a worse record this year than 2024. Absolutely no moves of consequence in the offseason. If we win 60 games he's manager of the century.

My general feeling is bleah. But I actually want to watch Robert play some before they decide to lean even further into the suckitude. I thought the 121 loss season would have taught them not to sign a bunch of washed up vets on their last contracts. Guess I was wrong. But Taylor can also play LF against lefties to spare Benintendi the humiliation., so there’s that.

90 wins and the ALCS! BOOK it!!!

Love this signing, even if it doesn't move the needle, this guy is one of my favorite players. He can actually play CF, I suspect he can still play the position well in his "advanced" age. Can he hit the ball anymore? Doesn't seem like it. Thought we should've signed him as a fourth outfielder last year. He still put up 0.9 WAR last season, that's probably our best position player right? I think he could still ops for .700ish and he's not going to make a fool out of himself on the defensive end. Was halfway interested to see if Fletcher could figure it out...but I doubt it so I'm not mad about it.

I'm always skeptical of signing minor league/low value contracts for the "potential trade value" (see robbie grossman) but I think Taylor is a guy who could actually still turn it on and be a useful piece to a team trying to make the playoffs, otherwise I'm happy to watch him play CF after a Luis trade. I'm also back on the 'keep Luis' bandwagon.

Basically he takes the place of DeLoach Fletcher Sheets Julks...

So if Robert isn't traded, and this is a major league deal,

The bench would look like:
Taylor
Backup Catcher
RF Platoon (Whoever is not in lineup that day)

Either they're going to go a pitcher short, or that would leave 2 backup outfielders and 1 backup infielder for any average given day.

They can have someone like Vargas be primary DH and also get IF at bats.

THat's how it would go, but you also can't use him as the backup on a given day. That also means you better have someone on your roster who can cover all 4 infield positions, because any of those guys could get hurt - including shortstop. Someone, whether it's on of the RFs or the catcher, would need to be the primary backup 1b, and I'm not sure who the backup shortstop is. Most likely they'll "Kluge" it and pretend that they have a backup SS when they're talking about Sosa or Rojas, but neither of those is close to idea.

The obvious result is trading Robert, but if that's not done, it sorta makes a mess of the infield.

Always what you like to see on a rebuilding team.
