It is intriguing...but does JR have nearly the sway/power he had in the 90s among the owners?  I am guessing not even close to it!  Does he even have the energy to take that battle on?  We all know he is a union-buster...but I just can't believe the ownership groups in MLB pay much attention to JR these days.

Any structure like that has a survivorship outline that details how those kinds of changes happen.  While they might not replace regular board seats, they have no choice but to replace the head.  I mean in theory they could have left it open, but I really don't see a scenario where they didn't account for the death (or whatever disqualifying events may be in the deal)of the chairman.

Maybe your definition of competitive is not aligned with others here. .500 would seem reasonable during the 2027 season if there is one, but you'd still need a lot of guys to get good fairly fast .

After he voted not to settle the 1993-94 labor dispute and then signed Albert Belle to at the time the largest deal in MLB history (many think he did this to spite the other owners for settling) JR was removed from the committee that advises the commissioner on labor matters. he hasn't had as much influence since then.

That I don't know, although in the story in the Tribune about 10 years ago, they said JR's executor got the control.

The line in the article is that JR basically gets to play the bad guy.
