Yeah, looks like @Harold's Leg Lift was right all along. I worried Cags outdid be a 1b only guy, but with that kinda power, who cares? Looks like he should have been the first guy picked.

He is playing some outfield too.  Cags is a special hitter and he's going to be hitting in the middle of the Royals order for a long time.

Let the record show I was also all in on Hagen Smith and needless to say my opinion of him has not changed one iota.  He's going to be a fantastic top of the rotation starting pitcher.

I thought he was hurt again......

It was just reported he had an MRI for elbow soreness.

He’s not injured though. MRI was clean and he’s pain free. White Sox believe that mechanics caused the elbow soreness.

One key to Jonathon Long’s success (Cubs' #13 prospect, Long Beach State, 1B/DH)? He hits the ball extremely hard. He is second among all Triple-A hitters (with at least 100 batted balls) with a 58.9 percent hard-hit rate and third with a 93.4 mph average exit velocity. Among Major Leaguers, only the Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani and the Pirates' Oneil Cruz have a better hard-hit rate. While the 23-year-old isn't particularly tall at 5-foot-11, he has plenty of strength and bat speed to produce plus raw power from the right side.

The California native flexed that power last season when he led the farm system with an .888 OPS and slugged 23 home runs between three levels. Long’s bat speed really emerged in the Arizona Fall League, where he hit multiple balls over 110 mph and ranked second on the circuit with six homers in 18 games. He’s only built on that loud contact in 2025.

“This year he is putting up the best exit velocities of his career by a pretty substantial margin,” Kanzler said. “The second best was in [High-A] South Bend in the first half of the year last year. He is definitely impacting the baseball better than he ever has, including in college with metal bats. So this is a great thing to see.”

Both Teel and Jacob Gonzalez?? made the hot sheet.

Quote

9. Kyle Teel, C, White Sox
Team: Triple-A Charlotte (International)
Age: 23
Why He’s Here: .500/.636/1.188 (8-for-16) 7 R, 2 2B, 3 HR, 6 RBIs, 65 BB, 5 SO
The Scoop: If you can string together a decent game night after night, you can put together a very solid season. And Teel has strung together a long run of solid games, even if he’s rarely been spectacular. He’s gotten a hit in 20 of his past 21 games, although his two three-hit games this week were his first three-hit games since March. He had a 10-game hitting streak earlier this month where he never had a multi-hit game. But Teel is hitting .356/.465/.644 this month and .293/.397/.490 overall. (JJ)

16. Jacob Gonzalez, SS, White Sox
Team: Double-A Birmingham (Southern)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: .304/.292/.696 (7-for-23) 6 R, 3 HR, 5 RBIs, 5 SO, 2 SBs
The Scoop: This is easily the best week of Gonzalez’s relatively young pro career. The 2023 first-round pick had never hit three home runs in a month before he hit three this week. Power is not usually Gonzalez’s calling card, but you wouldn’t be able to tell that from a week in which he was a pull-happy slugger. (JJ)

Kyle Teel is on BA's list of 10 MLB hitting prospects who stood out In May.

Kyle Teel, C, White Sox
A primary trade piece in the return for Garrett Crochet, Teel turned in the jets in May. One of the top catching prospects in baseball, Teel started the season off slow, hitting .255/.354/.398 in April and posting a 98 wRC+, which is below the league average line. As the calendar flipped to May, however, things seemed to change immediately.

In 18 games so far this month, Teel has hit .359/.461/.641 with four home runs and 10 extra-base hits. Over that time, he has shown a year-over-year increase in exit velocity data. This coincided with a jump in hard-hit rate and barrel rate. In an organization stacked with major league-caliber catching talent, Teel might provide the best value on both sides of the ball with an average-or-better defensive profile to go along with a blend of skills at the plate.

Teel looks like the rare catcher whose bat is up to the standard of other premium positions, not just other catchers. He shows above-average on-base ability with average game power and enough bat-to-ball skills to make everything go.

White Sox: Caleb Bonemer, SS/3B (No. 9)
Paying Bonemer first-round money ($2,997,500) as a second-round choice from a Michigan high school looks like a wise investment for the White Sox. He stands out with his bat speed, big raw power and solid arm strength and is hitting .294/.436/.490 with four homers and 17 steals in 45 games in Single-A. He ranks third in the Carolina League in on-base percentage, slugging, OPS (.926) and extra-base hits (19).

New MiLB/prospect focused podcast series from CHSN.

Debut episode is a chat with Janish about some broader org development stuff. What they focus on at different levels, balancing maximizing player strengths vs. minimizing weaknesses, being aggressive with these "reset" assignments, etc.

Says the AZ trips are never meant to be long, mainly just to take advantage of some of the tools they've built out at the facility there, then maybe get guys in a few games before sending them back with momentum. It's something they will continue to do.

Another thing he mentioned was Braden feeling more comfortable batting LH than RH. He wants to improve at it because he's determined to be a switch hitter, so the staff has worked in more RH work into his prep even though of course he mostly faces RHP in game. It's apparently a tricky balance because Braden (and Wolkow, he says) are already guys getting in extra work when they can just because of their makeup.

He shouts out Bonemer and Mogollon as two players who should get some more shine.

14. Schultz
42. Teel
53. Smith
57. B.Montgomery
62. Quero
87. Bonemer 👀

BA Grade: 55/High.
The Skinny: So far, Bonemer has shown power, solid plate skills and the ability to stick in the infield. It’s been a long time since the White Sox have had a talented prep hitter with Bonemer’s upside.
