Sometimes (most of the time??) it is so difficult to be a White Sox fan.

The team has been playing better; I've been able to convince myself that they will only be bad and not terrible.

But driving home and listening to the game, I hear first about TJS for Thorpe (not unexpected; we were all saying this last fall). And then I hear about Drury's thumb injury, completely out of the blue. I had such high hopes for Drury.

Two of the few players I was really excited about this year are out for long periods of time. Just God Damn.

It is soooo tough to be a White Sox fan.

High hopes for a soon to be 33 year old  without much of a defensive position that OPS'd .469 across nearly 400 plate appearances last season? Hah. Brandon Drury blows man.

The data indicate that FF injury is associated with UCL injury in throwing athletes. Future prospective studies should investigate...

This is a retrospective study that only looks at EMR data not the actual subjects. Ifbyou look at the actual study not just the abstract you'll see that the authors don't even look at the causation.

It doesn't really add anything we haven't discussed.

What is the reason for the flexor strain? It it the overuse of the muscle or did they have a UCL laxity and that caused the muscle to over work.

The study is 4 years old. The study was also dine on young high school kids with a mean age of 17. Different muscle development than the MLB pitchers. Some probably had growth plates that werent closed which contributed as well. Also 8 of the subjects were female.

There are more recent studies that show this. While there can be a correlation, it depends on the etiology.

If Drury was the savior, Sox never stood a chance anyways.  A hot ST didn’t change that either.

Guys that throw as hard as Thorpe are always at risk for the dreaded TJS. It is what it is.

Who has been referring to him as a savior?

This is really bad news for Thorpe.  Rotation spots are going to be super hard to come by come 2026 (hopefully at least) and he could be on the outside looking in if just a couple of the Burke, Smith, Martin, & Cannon group (or even the AAA arms) prove themselves this year.  Obviously it’s a good problem for the team, but I was really hoping Thorpe would get an extended look free of injury this year.

This was probably true for Thorpe even before TJ.

put a nail in that Cease trade, what an absolute travesty it was to let Getz handle this s%*#, just wow man

It has to top Getz’s list of bad trades.  Second on the list must be the Gregory Santos trade.  Imagine if Getz comes away with not even one quality major leaguer from those two trades.

Drew Thorpe — TJ surgery

Samuel Zavala — .641 OPS in A+ ball last season

Jairo Iriarte — walks the world

Steven Wilson — DFA and went unclaimed with a paltry $1.05 million salary for 2025

Prelander Berroa — TJ surgery

Zach DeLoach — DFA and went unclaimed

Blake Larson — TJ surgery

Just becaisebpitchers are having  a UCL reconstruction doesn't mean they aren't going to be MLB pitchers. We still have a nearly 90% rate of returning them to prior levels.

If you are only looking at this year you are correct. But if you look at the totality of the career, this isn't correct.

It’s still a cluster.  Lost service time, lost development time, and lost experience.

Pitchers get injured. It's not something that one can avoid.

True, doesn't mean there will be no quality MLB players from the trades as you stated though.

I didn’t state that.  I said the current assessment of the trade looks awful.  I also said, “imagine if Getz doesn’t come away with one quality major leaguer from these two trades…”

Correct, and my point was there is no reason to assume this at this point.
