I was told by an individual that Hahn got royally pissed off when he started hearing that the Cubs were basically laughing at him for taking Eloy in the first place. They supposedly were telling other baseball people that Eloy had severe limitations.

Eloy was a consensus top 10 prospect in all of baseball and many had him as a top 5 prospect.  He had limitations being a bat only prospect, but the offensive potential was incredibly high.  His trade value was enormous when we acquired him for Quintana.  Whoever told you this “story” appears to be lacking general baseball acumen.

I don't think so.  Turns out he was right, whoever he is.  I'd love to know.

I think limitations as in he would be just a DH, if he could hit.

Eloy was never the same hitter after getting hurt in a Spring Training game in 2021. He lost his power after the injury.

Would have considered a Colas platoon at 1B but you can't keep guys around who flirt online. Maybe he is a head case for all we know. They gave him zero encouragement.

A prospect is an unknown commodity and their trade value is tied to how others’ perceive the potential of said player.  Pretending they were valueless at the time of their prospect peak because they ultimately failed years later is revisionist theory at its finest.

Ultimately, if a member of the Cubs front office was laughing they could “give away” a consensus top 10 prospect who was arguably the best prospect in his international class (they gave him $2.8M to outbid all the other interested teams) then they should not be part of a major league front office.  The Cubs could have traded him (even moreso when combined with Cease) for all sorts of impactful players…instead they chose Jose Quintana.

So do you do think all other teams didn’t claim him off of waivers because he flirts online?

Didn’t that fraud Bartolo’s Butthole claim many teams were interested lol

Not just “many” teams. Five specific teams. Those GMs must have messaged Bartolo to tell him they were about 90% likely to put in a claim, but all five ultimately decided against it.

He must have gotten added to the MLB GM signal chat

Dylan Cease alone won that trade for the White Sox, no matter how badly Sox player development screwed up Eloy.

Bob Nightengale trolls the Sox woes in his latest column…

– Remember when the Chicago White Sox had their choice of acquiring outfielder Jake McCarthy or Dominic Fletcher from the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor-league right-hander Cristian Mena last year?

Well, Fletcher was just released, and McCarthy was the D-backs starting center fielder on opening day.

– It’s hard to fathom that the Chicago White Sox have had six pitchers undergo Tommy John surgery since spring training.

He crossed a line but I would give him another chance. Jim Bowden says the Sox are barely AA competitive. The other teams don't want him for an active roster spot. Understood.

That doesn't even include Jesse Scholtens.

Well, that’s because he’s bad and no team should miss him.

I didn’t include him since technically Hahn was the GM when he was signed.  Getz was the assistant GM at that time.

Jake Burger for cash considerations.  I guess we now know which team didn’t win that trade.

Ah I just thought it was overall guys no one wants from this team

One of the dumbest trades made by Hahn and company.

25hrs. 800 ops. Under team control for a few more years and was a great clubhouse guy who wanted to be here and was a fan favorite.  Traded for a fringe prospect with injury history.  They always work out.

Meanwhile marlins flipped him for multiple better prospects
