Miquel Vargas should be the 1B. I’m really surprised they kept Vaughn. I’d honestly rather see someone like Rizzo or Tellez there

Vaughn is one dude on this offense I’m willing to cut bait on.  I just don’t believe he will ever put it together, even if a new hitting coordinator in Fuller.

I would say that the Sox were historically bad due to the offense.  As measured by OPS, the #29 team was closer to the #13 team than the #30 team (Sox) was to the #29 team.  If measured by runs scored, the #29 team was closer to #16 than #30 to #29.   The bullpen was bad, but was #29 (measured by ERA or WHIP), ahead of the Rockies.  And the gap between #29 and #28, while wide, wasn't nearly as wide as the offensive gaps.

Some marginal improvement in the offense should have a significant effect on the win total:  Like if Sosa and Vargas could get OPS in, say, the mid .700s.
Same with bullpen, although to a lesser extent.

They blew 36 saves in 55 opportunities. By far the worst rate in MLB.

did anybody post this video? a little corny, a little overexcited for a regular season win against a bad team, but you have to appreciate the vibes. I'm glad they're excited and seem to care.

His first win as manager…let them celebrate.  Darker days ahead so enjoy the ones you can.

55 save opportunities.

Likely by far the fewest in MLB.

That's a big reason I don't think anybody should have been expecting any kind of return on Kopech. The dude literally only put his coaches' suggestions into practice the week before he was traded.

For other teams, sure.

I'm glad they seem to all like each other/their manager is the point. It's also the sort of celebration that only the former worst team of all time would do.

What they did is a tradition for when a manager gets his first win. Grifol got it, too. So have other managers from other teams.

Yeah, he made the plays hit to him. There was a game in ST where he looked absolutely terrible. Maybe he had bad clams that morning.

The spring training error heard round the world.

I don’t mind it since it’s a brand new season.  What’s much worse IMO is when a terrible team that is already out of competition for the season celebrates a meaningless win like they made the playoffs.

I just got a text from the White Sox reminding me they are undefeated and letting me know Saturday would be a good time to get to the ballpark. I rip them plenty, but I thought this was really good, and if I didn't have something else going on, I probably would have done what they wanted.

having some fun with it and at least pretending to be in on the joke rather than the butt of it is smart marketing imo from the Sox.

Last year with the 1-9 start or whatever being outscored a billion to zero we had an storm cloud over us the entire season.  baby steps.

I wonder if the Sox Twitter person that was constantly trolling got a promotion to that role?

Did they keep whoever was running their social media accounts at the end of last year?

It’s really early, but I think the manager change will prove to be massive.  Grifol was such a fucking joke of a leader that anyone would have been an upgrade, but I kind of think Venable is the real deal (again, I bit ridiculous to make claims after one game I get it).  I just think Will is what you look for in a major league manager:  leader of men, former player, up-to-date on analytics and modern in-game strategies, still young enough to resonate with today’s players, willing to work with the front office, etc.

That clubhouse celebration after the game tells me you are correct.

This was my initial guess.  Troll extraordinaire.  🤣
