OFC this could also turn into another Chris Sale/Red Sox (did have the 2018 WS title) contract long term...although Garrett does have another six years left to go in Boston first.

Sale was worth 20.5 fWAR/6 years with Boston, btw.

Just Braden and Meidroth for Crochet suddenly looks quite different, especially if Quero can’t get his head out of his ass the remainder of the season.

This trade would still look better if they could invest the Crochet savings (not signing him long term) into Murakami or Vargas.

It was also premature to declare victory for the Sox as well when Braden Montgomery came up.

Meidroth’s on pace for roughly a 2.8-3.2 fWAR, but it feels like half of SoxTalk wants him replaced…some say Antonacci, others argued Jacob Gonzalez, next it will be Bonemer, etc.

Braden Montgomery would pace in the 3-3.5 range more based on his defense than offense só far, but recently some still left him off their lists of core players, só the jury’s far from out.

Thankfully, it's only an ankle sprain for Teel. His injuries this season certainly have sucked, but the good news is that it's nothing catastrophic. I don't know that a freak play at the plate where he twists his ankle is a sign that he's Luis Robert 2.0.

Even though I hate to be a franchise that trades All-Star pitchers when their price tag passes the $100M mark, I'm still satisfied with us getting Teel, Meidroth, and B Montgomery for Crochet. Heck, we still might eventually even get some usefulness out of Wikelman Gonzalez.

Teel can't stay healthy and Meidroth has a 287 xwOBA. Monty looking more and more like a player everyday though so that's a big plus.

How many arm injuries has Crochet had? Are we really going to pretend that because he hit 200 inning last year that he is now Nolan Ryan? He is literally out today with an arm injury. Again.

This was only announced close to an hour ago. Perhaps we need a new title or another thread informing our community. I only see an announcement on The Tribune's website . There should be tweets out there parroting the Tribune's Lamond Pope article.

My uninformed guess is 4 to 6 weeks.

I judge these by the "process" I guess is the term. Crochet was a budding ace: not quite there, but only because he didn't have a full season. In return, we got 2 top 50-60ish prospects and 2 other interesting players. Fair deal and it worked out great.

Overall I'd say that Getz & Co.'s talent evaluation has been solid; I'm less confident in the negotiation aspects of the trades.

Mayer is apparently not well regarded in the BoSox clubhouse...missed a bullet there.

I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to declare that the Sox have indisputably won this trade, hands-down.

...because Garrett Crochet was an established starting pitcher actively playing in the MLB who was traded for then-minor league prospects who had to both graduate and start, you know, becoming good. Montgomery didn't even debut until well into this season. You'd kind of expect the WAR calculation to tilt in favor of the MLB player in the early years, wouldn't you?

With three MLB-caliber players on the White Sox that WAR scale is obviously going to tilt heavily in Sox favor in the coming years...hell, the coming months, unless two or three of our MLB players are hurt.

Actually, as of today, Crochet has put up 6.1 fWAR, and all 4 players the White Sox received have put up 6.1 fWAR, accumulated. Most of that is driven by a slap-hitting second baseman with a tenuous hold on his position, So, yeah, Crochet vs. Meidroth. Yea, Boston barely wins that trade!! LOL.

I would think a generational talent acquired in a trade would dwarf the return in WAR, not struggle to barely beat out an afterthought throw-in.

If we were to play the same dishonest word game with the Chris Sale trade, two years in, the White Sox only reaped 1.8 fWAR from Moncada and Kopech, while Sale was delivering 13.8 fWAR for the Red Sox. In Crochet terms, the Sale trade would look like Chris Sale throwing out his arm struggling to outpitch the production of Luis Alexander Basabe in high-A.

Frankly, I'd be embarrassed to be arguing that Boston won that trade.
