Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.

Yup. Especially since I don't feel like the Sox want to develop him as a starter.

I like Taylor’s potential, but the Sox aren’t winning anything the next two years.  If teams are treating him like a bonafide closer already, then you might as well cash in on him.  Go use him to get two top 75 position prospects.

yahoo sports trade speculation

Padres acquire OF Luis Robert Jr. from White Sox for LHP Boston Bateman, OF Kavares Tears

The 28-year-old Robert has largely been a mess at the plate since his 38-home-run, All-Star season in 2023, but he still offers more upside than most position players available at this year’s deadline, and he has been playing much better over the past month. At worst, he’s a super streaky bat with a plus glove in center field who can make an impact on the basepaths. But if he’s starting to stabilize offensively into something more reliable, we’re talking about a game-changing talent

From MLB Pipeline: "Tears redshirted at Tennessee in 2022 and then got only 56 at-bats due to hamstring and oblique injuries in 2023.

Trading Robert for a guy with historical hamstring and oblique injuries sounds like a great idea.

Idk to me it just feels like Colson ends up at 3B. I don’t really want to trade for another one, when Vargas should already be there. Neither Vientos nor Baty do anything for me.

Let Colson show you he can’t play SS.  Baty or Vientos for Robert would be nice.

Vientos/Vargas could rotate 1B/3B, although Vientos is not good, defensively, at 3B. His bat plays at 1B better than Vargas'.

If he is not a starter and someone wants to pay you high level closer price for him, I will drive him to the airport.

Agreed, especially for a long-term CF.  I’d sell high on Taylor before his arm falls off.

Robert + Taylor for Crawford does not equal high level closer price, imo. But yeah, if someone wants to give us a premium position player prospect for him, sure. But as a sweetener in a Robert deal? Pass.

I doubt the Sox are in on Vientos. They have been prizing defense and controlling the zone. Those are two Vientos weaknesses. Also, he’s a 1b/3b tweener like Vargas, who has been quite a bit worse than Vargas this year. Plus, he’s gonna be arb eligible with only 4 years of control. But maybe Gene Watson loves him?
