Offense is just trash

If one more person says Robert is a 5 tool player I'm going to have an episode. He needs to go.

  • I don't think that's true about the offense. They seem to have a lot more people on base this year, they just can't deliver the big hit. Vaughn, Robert, and Vargas are killing them.

  • In theory and assuming everyone is healthy and on the roster this should be what's happening and in no specific order: Tauchman/Slater RF Robert CF Vargas 3B/DH Vaughn 1B/DH Q

  • No one saying it's murderers row, but they should put up a little more fight and maybe win some of these games that were within reach

GMs can't react emotionally, like fans. They have to be more dispassionate and level-headed.

This offense is worse than last year, Getz has given us another year of AAA baseball.

I’m sorry but there is no way that is true. Is that true? I’d expect we are 10 runs at least ahead of last year

This year they have scored 54 through 17 games (if my spot math is correct), 36 through the first 17 last season.

i mean, we were legit threatening the shutout record through the first two months last year lol, this offense hasn’t gotten close to that so yea this year is better so far

conversely, given up 68 this season and through 17 gave up 89 last year.  So, kind of the difference of having a few blowout wins lol

What frustrates me is the shitty ABs. No situational awareness. Just hack wild then get called out on strikes on pitch down the fucking dick of the plate. The wild hacks against a guy who can't throw strikes and missing or fouling back fucking meatballs and cookies screaming to be crushed

Well when you got Palacios hitting 5th..... Almost as bad as leury hitting cleanup....

A outmatched player can have all the situational awareness in the world and will look like trash.

after 17 games,

2024 - 36 scored, 91 against, for a -55 run differential
2025 - 54 scored, 68 against, for a -14 RD

In theory and assuming everyone is healthy and on the roster this should be what's happening and in no specific order:

Tauchman/Slater RF

Robert CF

Vargas 3B/DH

Vaughn 1B/DH

Quiero/Thaiss C

Baldwin SS

Meidroth 2B

Benintendi LF/DH

Drury DH/3B

Bench: Taylor OF (Defense good to keep around and spot Start.

Sosa 2B/1B

Jones PR/Of in a major pinch

If everyone is healthy, Jones isn’t even on roster.

And Slater may not even play on this team again, this year. When Benintendi, Tuchman and Drury are back, there's no room to carry 5 dedicated OFs.

Murderer's row. This is supposed to be the major leagues.

Realized that after the fact, so ok eliminate jones

Well that’s how they planned it going into the year so I wouldn’t say it isn’t possible (5 true OFs on the team).

I read that his injury is 4 to 6 weeks out.  You think he might be cut when he is ready to return?

If Slater comes back June 1, you're talking about Drury, Lee, Tauchman, Benintendi, Rojas, and maybe even Colson Montgomery being ready for roster spots. Slater will be in competition with Taylor for backup OF with Drury, Baldwin, Rojas and Vargas all able to play a corner.

It's not impossible, but they're going to have a 2 month roster crunch from June 1-August 1 if they don't start making some trades or cutting some OFs.

I think only 1 shutout so far this season? Offense still is anemic. Most of their runs have come in 3 or 4 games

It should improve.  Obviously both young and old players can struggle, but with Meidroth, Quero, and soon Benintendi, Tauchman, and Drury, I can’t imagine it being worse.  Also, call up Elko to DH.  That should be 4 to 5 better hitters added to the roster after already adding Meidroth, replacing some absolute scrubs that have no business being in the starting lineup for an MLB team.

8 of their 13 losses have been by 3 runs or less, 3 have been walked-off.

“Trout 2.0” lol

one thing I can’t figure out is why do Sox hitters peak in their low to mid 20s? We’ve seen it now with Timmy, Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Madrigal, Vaughn. Given the peak was short lived in most of these cases but each hitter got objectively worse when they entered their late 20s. Does this happen to other teams too? Seems odd to me.

More like “Temu Trout”, haha.

Good question.  One could wonder about injuries for most of those guys but that doesn’t explain Anderson and Vaughn.  I think Anderson just never really had a very good approach at the plate but how does he go from batting title to worthless so quickly?  But he hacked at a lot of bad pitches so once you realize he doesn’t have much more patience than Hobby Baez, just stop giving him pitches to hit.

Full "strength":

C - 2 of Lee/Quero/Thaiss/Narvaez (Lee has options, Thaiss doesn't)
1B - Vaughn
IF - Sosa/Baldwin/Meidroth/Vargas/Amaya/Drury/Rojas
OF - Benintendi/Robert/Tauchman/Taylor/Slater

My guess is they eventually go with 6 IF and 4 OF, Amaya being DFAed, and one of Slater/Taylor being cut/traded. They only way to roster Elko is a straight replacement for Vaughn. Vaughn traditionally hits a *little* better in May, and is full throttle in June. If they see any value in Vaughn, they may wait until July 1 to cut bait. If Vaughn continues to OPS at this sub-.500 rate, maybe they consider Elko end of May...?
