I feel like people don’t believe me when I say this, but it really seems like the Sox organization thinks Vaughn is a “big name” for the fans.  I expect his leash to be way longer than we hope.

There are too many Vaughn City Connect jerseys left to sell?

Can't Ishbia do something billlionaire-ish like buy them all out to get Elko up?

One thing I find interesting is how even as I held Vaughn in low esteem as a below average first baseman, it is remarkable just how the longer a player is in the white Sox the worse they get.

Vaughn was a scouting calamity, but no matter if we take in a high ceiling player like Robert or low floor marshmallow like Vaughn, the closer they get to their prime the more likely they will be the worst player they have ever been.

Quero is actually the most hopeful addition.

How's that for negativity?

Vargas has played much better defense than expected and the offense is starting to slowly emerge.

Meidroth was fun for awhile but is a 2B.

Baldwin will be fine as a super utility guy but needs to learn a lot more at the big league level to be a net positive.

Sosa's really the wild card right now where it's easy to go back and forth on his pluses and minuses...still no closer to reaching a conclusion, but, once again....his defensive issues and IQ/instincts force him to be a 700-725 ops guy and not in the 600's.  But he's most definitely not a big league SS.

C  Quero/Teel

1B ???? Elko/Bonemer eventually

2B Meidroth

SS ???? Bonemer/Bergolla overly optimistic on both defensively

3B Vargas/J.Perez

LF ???

CF ???

RF B.Montgomery

DH rotating

Baldwin super utility

I knew I forgot someone. Quero !!

I think Sosa's actually been fine at 2nd base. He's made a lot of diving plays, gets up quick, makes a strong throw, turns the DP well.

I just think it's funny when Harold yells if he does make an error like don't ever play him at 2nd ever again. People need to let go of their biases.Btw Kelenic passed through waivers again and back in the Braves system.😋

But Gavin Lux would be Sox MVP...

So half right.

Pretty sure his 870ish ops won't stand up in the long run, but we shall see.

Or maybe it's Francona that's magical piece dust with him and Austin Hays.

Can you imagine how much crap Harold would have taken had Kelenic ended up with the White Sox and continuing flailing away at windmills?

Maybe I can invoke Occam's Razor but I think it's pretty simple. They drafted him and he's always had potential. He has a long leash to prove them right otherwise he's gone.

Getz didn't draft him, but he did waste nearly $6M on him after a lengthy track record of him being bad. I think the latter has more to do with why he's still here.

I know Getz didn't draft him but the White Sox in general did.

Listening to Getz talk about Vaughn today there's definitely a count down going on.

He'll definitely get a leash longer than a month with his arb number, whether it is deserved or not. I might be projecting, but Captain Panic needs a player win and he can't go admitting a pricy mistake so soon, so unfortunately we are all stuck with Vaughn sucking.

He's been getting some player wins with the young guys. Wouldn't hurt to try for 1 more. It isn't a loss if Vaughn is sent down. You can call him back up if Elko flops and he shows he can hit again which shouldn't be that hard for him in Charlotte. Maybe that WTP becomes HRP down there .

If he had a history of being an average regular it's one thing but he's literally been replacement level or worse for his career. I'd love to see how many guys, 3rd overall pick or not, approached 2.5K PA of below replacement production. Usually you don't get that long of a leash. Vaughn will have 2.5K PA and negative career fWAR if he's still on this team come July.

Wow, look at this: disgusting company.

Vaughn has basically 1000 more PA during that period than any other negative fWAR player. He's been given a runway the length of a light year.

This isn't 4 years ago when he was the big shiny prospect.

All they have to do is look at attendance to see there aren't any fan favorites except the young guys who come up and do well. Quero jersey sales will shortly be the most popular.

So no I don't believe you. He's just the most recognizable name next to Robert and it's very likely both will be gone next in less than 8 months.

You're forgetting Benintendi.

Mr. Biggest Contract in team history and Fenway Legend.

There are probably two players on the entire team I'd stop what I'm doing to watch. One is Shane Smith the other is quero. When Vaughn is up I'm more likely to grab a beer than anything related to watching him. That said, I do think the FO thinks he's a bit of a fan favorite. Undersized white guy, resonates!

Completely agree. He was an easy non-tender last winter and after a month he remains a DFA candidate. I just don't think Getz will admit to another pricy mistake yet.

From the Sun-Times. Getz's comments make it sound like he's not joining the team anytime soon:

First-base issues

Each time first baseman Andrew Vaughn is penciled into the lineup, Sox fans want to know why Tim Elko isn’t there instead.

It might be a fair question. Entering play Tuesday, Elko was hitting .354/.432/.732 at Triple-A Charlotte. Conversely, Vaughn was struggling, batting .157/.202/.275 for the Sox.

General manager Chris Getz, however, doesn’t seem to be in too much of a hurry to call up Elko. He lauded Elko’s hard-hit rate and leadership qualities and said the organization is ‘‘happy with [his] development . . . and know at some point he could join us here in Chicago.’’

‘‘Primarily, we’re focused on players in our system that we feel are going to be part of our future, and their development is the priority,’’ Getz said. ‘‘If that means we bring them up, then so be it.’’

Getz said the Sox are more focused on supporting Vaughn.

‘‘I know he wants greater results for the White Sox and for himself,’’ Getz said. ‘‘And we expect more out of him. Our job is to get the most out of each player, and we know that there’s more in the tank for Andrew.’’

And that's why he's going to have the worst cumulative MLB record of any GM in the history of modern baseball when all is said done.

Sunk cost fallacy here.
