The great thing about this win was that our running scheme was so good that it forced Fangio to either commit to the run or defend the thing Caleb is really good at: the play action dig route. Fangio basically said we'll let you run but we're not gonna bite on play action and let Caleb dice us up over the middle 20 yards at a time. The result was an ineffective play action game and Caleb no longer being able to do the thing he's really good at, but we absolutely destroyed them on outside zone cut backs over the middle. We must have ran that like 10 times this game and averaged 10 yards a rush. Ben out schemed Fangio today and that is not easy to do. 

I've been wondering why DCs don't try more to scheme against that dig post combo off play action more. Because that's easily our most efficient pass play all year and we go to that concept every game.

The Bears took away Saquon and forced Hurts to beat them in the air, and he simply has not been that guy all year.  Now, that 35-40MPH wind clearly affected both guys but it really did not seem like that Philly offense likes each other very much

Yes it wasn't his best game but he does come through in the clutch and that counts for something. I'm firmly in the Caleb Williams camp, I know he will get better under our coach...

Congratulations to the Chicago Bears...a statement win and it guarantees their first winning season since 2018.

That's more progress than I could have hoped for this season.

Caleb in my opinion is clearly the guy and also still has a bunch of work to do which should be the norm given he’s a 2nd year qb working his 1st year with a new coach.  I Feel like there’s so many wild opinions on him out there either way but the reality is he’s solid already with a lot of things he needs to get better at and has a lot of room to improve in with his talent.

They seemed like they hated each other last year then won the Super Bowl. But feels like it’s really prying apart now. Not sure where they’ll find an OC though. Though sheesh maybe they try to pry Declan Doyle with playcalling

Exactly, you worded it out better than I could have, especially considering I'm a bit drunk haha. I see that he has a lot of improvement to get to but I also see he has a ton of talent and I'm heartened by the fact that when the game is on the line, he has come through and made big plays leading to our wins...he's my QB, I believe in him...and this is from a fan who thought we should keep Fields and draft Marvin Harrison Jr and a bunch of draft picks...

I am still in disbelief that the running game was as good as it was today against that defensive front.  This offensive line is no joke right now, and don’t look now but Trapilo is playing more than a merely competent LT

I was shocked at how easily we ran on them all game. If Ben had done that all game instead of trying to throw the ball in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, we probably win this game by 3 scores.

Welcome to dutifully watching Iowa football the last thirty years, except for much less dynamic/exciting skill position players across the board (with the obvious exceptions of Dallas Clark and George Kittle)...

 

Still, must have been totally satisfying for Bears' fans who haven't seen those backfield yardage numbers since the SB Shuffle.

I realized at one point that I actually tuned Herbstreit out. I think it was the Thanksgiving travel.

They never get old - that was one of funnest Bears games!!! So physical - defense played great. Oline - awesome! Bad conditions - no problem. Let’s keep on rolling!!! Let’s go Bears!!! 

I think it is time to think these Bears might be for real.  They have been no where near full strength all year long, and yet are 9-3.

Hopefully we get TJ Edwards back for next Saturday. Jackson and Ogbongbemiga did fine the past 2 weeks, but they were special teamers for a reason. 

That’s funny I thought herbstreit was pretty kind to Caleb despite it being one of his rougher games. He was often pointing out the WR slips causing throws to look off.

While still skeptical of Poles talent evaluation, it was hard not to appreciate his accomplishments yesterday. The offensive line is one of the best in the league, largely due to the offseason moves of Dalman, Jackson and Thuney.

One of the reasons it was easy for me to fly off on Poles when that group started slow (esp Dalman) was that despite it being commonly said that it takes oline and offense time to gel, as a bears fan it’s been pretty rare to see our groups improve in season. They are either good right away and slowly atrophy, or bad and stay bad.

The bears across almost every major position group have been improving, as people who watch functioning organizations say is possible. Quite a sight.

the one area that will still paint as disappointing is DLine, which is way too expensive to be this mid. But even they played great vs the run yesterday.
