Sox claim Vinny Capra off waivers from Brewers

There was an open 40-man spot, so no corresponding move is needed there. However, he's out of options, so I'm guessing he bounces Amaya.

Who would have thought they would replace Amaya with someone worse, if that's what they do of course.

I hope someone is keeping a spreadsheet of all of these names that have come and gone from the roster in the last few years (and likely next few). It’s going to be long list and no one will remember 75% of them in 5 years

Maybe Fuller or the bench coach knows or noticed something about his swing that can be corrected. Otherwise, I would think they have shortstop covered between Meidroth, Baldwin, Sosa, Rojas and Tristan Gray in AAA.

Getz loves shitty utility guys, much like himself as a player.

Seems like the most likely explanation here is Capra is a more prototypical bench player than Amaya: plays multiple positions (including a few reps in the OF) and is a fast runner. But I assume Amaya could play 2B/3B, we just don't ask him to since he's the best SS defender on the team. But he's not a great runner. Move probably doesn't matter much either way. Capra had one great year in AA following the COVID season but otherwise hasn't shown much upside.

The dude is turning 29 in two months.  I doubt he’s figuring anything out at this stage in his career.

wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round...

Will this body last longer than Gage Workman?

Capra fills the 40, so someone's out I guess

He must have TWTW

Pretty sure when the White Sox faced him he was on an 1 for 32 or something like that run of at-bats.

So you're saying he's due.

I just don't get why we need more utility guys like Baldwin Gray Lipcius Maton Workman, and now this guy.

It's almost working backwards in roster contruction, concentrating on the last 2-3 spots on the roster and backend of the bullpen.

You might get SOME marginal improvement.

They can’t fix the front end of the roster until more guys are up and they are willing to spend money.

Which makes it weirder that they keep avoiding guys with big tools and flaws for guys with no tools and still have flaws

This has that "Shane" McKinven, feel; he's built up a ton of equity, there's nothing to lose, so I'm good with it.

The front end costs money.

And Jared Shuster is right back up:

When are Tauchman and Slater expected back? Palacios and probably Capra are not long for this roster.

Forgot Korey Lee has been rehabbing as well.

Unfortunately, unless they deal Thaiss to a team needing a C, it feels like Elko is going to be a casualty as well.

Edit: unless they DFA Michael Taylor.

They could, and then just let Baldwin play CF the back half of the year if Robert is gone. Doesn't matter at that point.
